I am the Mentor coordinator for Friends Outside Los Angeles, and Hope Mill Inc is making a powerful difference in the lives of the people we serve. They pack each bag with care and thought about the person who will be opening it, and treat each bag like a gift they would be proud to give their closest friend. They use their space well, and make the assembly process enjoyable and even moving for their volunteers. Their resources are well managed, and the entire process is filled with joy and excitement from their outreach to seeing clients carrying these bags with them long after the day they receive it. Wonderful people, wonderful environment, wonderful service to our community!!!

I have been fortunate to volunteer at Hope Mill for a few years. I have been able to help at the homeless connects and the backpacks that are handed out to the homeless are by far the hit of the day. They receive a blanket, food, clothing and health supplies including toothbrushes, shampoo, lotion and so much more. This is such a labor of love on Hope Mill's part and is really appreciated by the recipients. If you are looking for a great place to help, this is it!!

Our family has volunteered with this organization since 2014; sadly the need for their services has only increased over the years. Hope Mill provides "Care Packs" with essentials for people living on the streets, many of them chronically homeless. This service is provided in a dignified, non-judgmental, non-preaching way to those who need.

We have volunteered at "assembly days" to put the Care Packs together. The time goes quickly, with snacks and great music in the background. We've met other "repeat volunteers" and everyone is friendly and easygoing. The volunteer days are now a regular fixture on our family calendar.

Hope Mill provides an important service as part of the overall effort to assist the homeless. This organization deserves continuing support and appreciation.

I joined Hope Mill last year, not knowing the extent of their commitment to reaching people in need. I have been very impressed with all they have achieved so far. They work non-stop, and the whole family is involved and committed to assisting as many people and families as they can. If you can help them in any way in reaching their goal, please do so!

I absolutely adore Hope Mill. It is one of a kind love provided for those in need. The homeless received beautiful care packages. The care packages are filled with all kind of necessities and wants any one could use and ask for. I volunteer as often as I can to pack them and the staff there are sure to be sure they are packed with an abundance of care and love to insure the essential care items are first packed with the care. My organization is one that works with the formally incarcerated whom are being released homeless and when I witness my clients receiving the essential basics and glowing and smiling from ear to ear it is very rewarding. They truly care at Hope Mill and you feel it in every part of their organization. ...the hope...the love...the joy... the care.THANKS HOPE MILL! your existing is EVERYTHING!

I found Hope Mill when I was looking for a worthy organization to which I could donate an abundance of travel-sized toiletries. Google indicated Hope Mill’s office is located close to where I live so I dropped off my donation, and asked a little more about the organization. My husband and I had been looking for a volunteer opportunity so we signed up for the backpack/care pack assembly, held monthly, to help assemble backpacks and care packs for the homeless. What a unique experience. Everything is very organized, and assembling is done with love and respect as volunteers are instructed to pack the supplies as if we were packing a gift.

Partnering with missions, shelters, and other organizations and agencies with a homeless outreach, Hope Mill not only provides food and other basic necessities for those who find themselves in unfortunate circumstances, but it also provides hope, and the knowledge that there are many who care. We are proud to be a small part of such a compassionate organization.

I found a volunteer opportunity with Hope Mill via Meetup.com and decided to sign up. They are all-volunteer run and depend on mostly private donations for the care packs they distribute to people living on the streets and those in need. The distribution happens via other orgs they partner with, the work Hope Mill does is gathering the supplies and assembling them. I'm wary of finding events like this on the Internet because they are often run by religious organizations. I don't know if it is, but I didn't get any sense of that while I was there.

Everyone was really nice, just seemed like good people who want to do something kind for the community - families with young kids, people like me who came alone, folks who are regulars, pretty diverse. Pearl was super responsive to my questions and very friendly, you can tell this is a labor of love for her. Everything was organized, punctual, efficient, and it felt meaningful to put together 500 packs - exactly what I was hoping for. An afternoon well spent, I hope to come back next month. I also donated about $100 worth of in-kind supplies - I wasn't asked to, but it felt like a nice accompaniment to the volunteer time.

Hope Mill was founded to provide a small measure of hope and encouragement to those living on the street. Many of the homeless find themselves on the streets without any possessions or comfort items. Hope Mill has been widely acknowledged by those serving the homeless to fill that need. In addition to the direct street distributions, the CarePacks are utilized by many agencies and organizations with a homeless outreach -- using them as a bridge to establish communication. Once a relationship is forged, an effort can and often is, made to determine the needs of the individuals, with an eye toward identifying the resources needed to get them off the streets.

What an outstanding outreach and successful effort reaching the countless rising numbers of our homeless in our communities today. Hope Mill far exceeds many other organizations in reaching the multitudes who struggle and are suffering in this very trying times of our economy, they far surpass many others I have seen , in that, many people are interested in volunteering at Hope Mill, because they are so organized so filled with genuine heart and care, and meet the basic needs of our precious homeless on a daily basis. I am hoping this organization will grow in leaps and bounds and cause a snowball effect around the world. Thank you Hope Mill for your heart for the homeless and the outreach that is reaching so many in need. God Bless you !

My family has been volunteering at this non profit organization for about 2 years now and we enjoy it every time especially because when we finish packing our goal of 300-400 backpacks for the homeless we feel a sense of accomplishment that we did something to help someone in need. My kids especially learn the meaning of teamwork, respect and cooperation and learn that lending a hand to others when needed is always appreciated!!!

This is the charity based on compassion and love. I have volunteered to help pack backpacks on two different occasions, but have had an opportunity to discuss the vision and mission of Hope Mill many times. Clearly, all of the funds and other donations generated go directly to providing help for the homeless. The backpacks provide non-perishable food, blankets, sox, toiletries and writing materials. The organization works like a well-oiled machine. Each volunteer knows exactly what to do, each volunteer interacts smoothly with the others and time is saved. When I finished my work, my heart was larger and I left telling others about my empowering experience.

I was lucky enough to work with Hope Mill last summer and my time spent with the organization was priceless. The backpacks they assemble are well thought out and include items that we take for granted everyday. Pearl explained to us why each item was chosen and how treasured they would be by the person who received them. Everything was organized and clean and at the end of the day, you were proud of the product you produced. Also, I loved how they encouraged children to help out! It was a great learning experience.

HOPE MILL INC is such an amazing organization that's putting a smile on so many faces. I thank God that Hope Mill was available to help me, help others in need. I gave a care package to this young man and he says to me, "Mike, thank you so much. When you're in my situation you learn to appreciate everything and anything anyone does for you. Because most of the time people look down on you, they see you as less of a person. What they don't know, is that a lot of us are trying to do better. So thank you Mike, this means a lot to me". I would like to thank Pearl for everything she's done for us. - Mike G. SOCHi

Hope Mill is God's love in action. The founder of this organization had a vision that did not get discarded. Praise God! There's a song that says "only what you do for Christ will last " and this outreach does exactly what we humans are required to do. But that's not all. I found this outreach on the Internet. They are sharing a ministry that is touching the lives of others probably throughout this world. So my prayers for this ministry continue to flow. If I were near them I would volunteer gladly. To the leaders I say, stay encouraged and keep up the good work. What you're doing for those who have so little, will bring you a reward second to none in the end.

Our synagogue's Social Action committee has been making Care Packs in partnership with Hope Mill for a few years at our annual "Mitzvah Day" (social action). Last year we decided to expand our partnership by hosting monthly "Food Pack" gatherings after Saturday morning services. Our synagogue purchases the food items that go into the packs, and our synagogue members assemble about 50 food packs which I then deliver to Pearl H. (ED of Hope Mill) the following week.

This is an easy, efficient, and meaningful use our time to help people in need. Pearl and the rest of the staff of Hope Mill are kind, generous, flexible, and lovely to work with. In making their Care Packs, Hope Mill works hard to make sure that those in need are provided with food, blankets, socks, toiletries, and the like in a dignified, humanitarian way.

We hope to continue our relationship with Hope Mill, Inc for years to come, and highly recommend them to any person, group, or company looking to make a difference.

My organization, the Encino Lawyers' Association, was looking for ways we could contribute to our local community. I found out about Hope Mill and went to speak to Pearl and her husband. They patiently explained all that they were doing for the homeless and made specific suggestions of items to donate. After we gathered a huge pile of items at our next holiday party, I delivered them to Hope Mill. Pearl was very appreciative of our efforts and assured me that they would be put to good use immediately. It was pleasure dealing with everyone associated with Hope Mill and I recommend them highly.

Hope Mill has provided L.A. Family Housing, a homeless services provider in the San Fernando Valley, with Care Packs for homeless individuals we interact with during our ongoing outreach programs. The Care Packs are full of items ideal for someone living on the street- pop top and other easy to eat but healthy food items, clean socks, a clean t-shirt, hand warmers or gloves in winter, even a pre-stamped postcard and a pen in case the individual would like to reach out to a loved one. All the items are neatly packed with care, nothing sloppy or out of place - showing respect to the individuals receiving them.
Pearl and her husband are a pleasure to work with. L.A. Family Housing greatly values our relationship with Hope Mill.

I volunteered at Hope Mill during the summer of 2013. While I was there, I learned how to create and utilize spreadsheets, make phone calls, and write and mail business letters. Everything that I learned at Hope Mill will help me in other endeavors throughout my life. I am grateful that I had this opportunity. Even though I was only fifteen when I volunteered there, I was treated like an adult volunteer. It meant a lot to me because I was assigned a project that not many other people would trust a teenager with, and I learned new things along the way. Hope Mill accepted me with kindness and open arms. This was an experience that I will never forget. I admire the quality and the care that goes into the preparation and packing of the backpacks. It is amazing to me how many people they are able to help. I would gladly volunteer there again, hopefully in the near future.
