Programs: Fish assistance programs help up to 5,000 people per year in all demographics with predominantly very low income. Fish responds to requests for rent, utilities, medical expenses, and other short term emergency needs. We help to keep people in their homes with rent or necessary utilities, and ensure they have necessary medicine when they get hurt or sick. We work closely with social workers from fairfax county, local schools, hospitals and other nonprofit organizations. Year round, we offer a financial literacy class on basic budgeting and money management. Seasonally, fish supports healthy nutrition through snap (supplemental nutrition assistance program) at the herndon farmers' market, and provides hundreds of holiday food and gift baskets to families.
the bargain loft is the fish thrift store providing affordable shopping to the local community. It collects and markets a wide variety of donated items in good condition. Gently used furniture, linens & household goods, and other high need items are sold. Store net profits help support emergency financial assistance programs for local residents in short-term crises.
