Unprofessional management by Head of Service (HOS) and Director. Unethical in several areas: gossips and belittles staff, they share private info during staff consultations , days off are never ending for HOS but not other staff, lack of support in crisis, lack of support for daily activities, figure it out yourself support from HOS/Director, no trainings available, I never saw HOS in homes to provide support, clients don’t know or trust HOS, they dump work on others so they don’t have to work.

Administrators did more than anyone and were under valued. But I appreciated two specific administrators who were always available and supported in more ways than they needed.I probably called them too much but they never made me feel bad about needing the support!

I have been in several group homes, and I can say that this agency by far is the best. The homes are clean and beautifully decorated. The atmosphere feels like a home and not a facility. The staff genuinely care about the kids, and you can see that the kids have bonded with them.

I have had the pleasure volunteering at many non-profits. Heritage Homes continues to hold a dear spot in my heart. I had so much fun helping with a painting event! I'm currently studying to become a social worker and volunteering at Heritage reminds me why it is so important we need nonprofits in this field.

As a young adult, I lived in one of the homes that Heritage operated. They not only cared for me but they treated me like I mattered. I could never repay them back for what they did for me. They went above their jobs to help me feel loved and cared for. I owe them so much and I could never repay them. Till this day 21 years later I still keep in touch and volunteer when I can. Love them.

Toured a couple of these lovely facilities last week and incredibly impressed with how well taken care of the environment and homes look!! Lots of attention to detail with therapy room and outdoor group session area.

Heritage staff are such high quality counselors and people... I really appreciate how much they do and their "whatever it takes" attitude when it comes to serving the youth and community. I helped with activities and plan to spend more hours volunteering soon! Thank you, wonderful team!!

I volunteered at Heritage while I was a student at UCLA and heard about them from the Mindfulness Center at UCLA. Heritage takes really good care of the youth that they serve and they go ALL OUT with such fun, elaborate and entertaining annual events for youth and their families. I attended their Halloween Party last year and it was such a blast!! They had a whole haunted house set up and the staff dressed up in costumed to make it fun for the kids with amazing food and decor!!

I had multiple placements before being with Heritage. They are one of the best places that a foster kid can live. The group home I was places was in Phillips Ranch, the house has the feeling of a Home. The staff made me feel very welcomed and safe. I can never thank them enough for helping me when I was at the lowest point in my life. They helped me active my goal in getting my High School Diploma. At my graduation all my staff and people that did not have to attend did attend to support me. They are wonderful people, Heritage helped me more then any other place has. I will always be grateful for what they do and how they treat their kids. I love them.

I really enjoy being a part of this incredible group of people and sharing time with the boys and girls. They are teens but I still enjoy playing games and doing activities with them.

I came to Heritage when I was 17 years old. This was the first time I was ever placed in a group home and I was scared. I had heard so many bad stories from other girls that had lived in a group home. Once I arrived I noticed that the house was actually a home. I met the staff that became more then a staff but more of mentors to me while living there. The home was my home, I felt safe and welcomed. The people working for Heritage helped me and guided me through transitional housing. They helped me move into my apartment. Not only did they mentor me while living the home but once I moved into my transitional housing they kept in touch with me and offered help when I needed. They were still part of my life even after I left the home. To this day I appreciate what they did for me and knowing they are still there if I need advice is a great feeling.

I emancipated from Heritage last year and went into transitional housing. I stayed in touch with the staff and agency, even after moving out, and continued to receive help, guidance and support. I visited almost daily after school at one point just because it is the only family that I know.

After I finished my two years at transitional housing, I was required to move out and the County helped me locate an apartment and helped me with assistance to pay rent but I could not afford any furniture and did not have even a mattress to sleep on. The staff at Heritage donated a bunch of stuff to me such as dishes, mattress, towels, silverware, bedding and other items that I needed. The thing that really blew me away is that they helped me set up a Go Fund Me page that raised almost $8,000 in apartment furnishings and this is what my place looks like now!!!
I am so proud to come home and could not have imagined in a million years that I would have my own place and it would look so incredible!! I could never have accomplished this on my own and I would not be where I am today without their help and support. The staff at Heritage, especially Maria, Sandi and Deonne, realllllly go above and beyond! I feel that I will always have them in my life and if I am ever in trouble or need anything, I know that I can count on them. I have grown so much as a person having these wonderful people in my life. They are tough, and expect a lot out of the kids but in return, they helped me and the other girls accomplish more than we thought that we could. Heritage doesn't let any of the kids give up on themselves, thank God! And so happy that they didn't give up on me or let me quit when I was struggling! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU

I was a youth residing at the Whittier facility and am so grateful that I landed at a Heritage home! I was 16 when I was placed and a very depressed, confused, angry girl. My one saving grace was that I had always been a good student but being placed in foster care destroyed my will and I no longer cared about school.
I felt cared for in a gentle and kind way by all the staff, especially the leadership team. They were so interested in my potential, future and helping me adjust, heal, become healthy emotionally and psychologically. Through their eyes and effort, I could see myself as someone better, stronger, capable and wanted the future they painted for me so I got back on track!! I finished High School and started volunteering at Heritage, then I finished college and started working at Heritage as an employee all the way through my Masters program. I am now in the doctorate program, no longer work at Heritage but I serve on the Board of Directors as the President and Chair.

When I think of my Heritage family, the words compassion, kindness, commitment and quality of service comes to mind. Our motto is "Kindness and Compassion in Action" and each person at this organization lives this motto every day. The culture has been set as being very generous in all regards; with the employees, the youth, the volunteers, community and family members of the youth. It's like they wrap their warm arms of love around everyone who walks through the doors and it is felt and appreciated.

The lessons and wisdom taught to the the youth go beyond just basic self-care, counseling, independent living skills and relationship building. While all those are important, Heritage goes further and has a holistic approach that includes things such as yoga classes, creative photography studio, meditation practices, healthy diet and cooking workshops, a community garden that the youth work on and a strong mentoring program that involves leaders and business owners who take kids under their wing.

I will always consider Heritage as family and can attest to the affect these wonderful people have had on my life and success as an adult. I was raised here and now living the life that they envisioned for me and helped me create.
Here is a picture of me when I was 16 taken at the Whittier facility and one now... yes, I have come a long way thanks to Heritage!!

I volunteer at this non-profit and the thing that amazes me is how much they all care about the kids that they serve and go out of their way to make the facilities look like regular teen homes! So many of the staff have been there decades and the kids really seem bonded and connected with the people who work there.
I help do some handy work, paint now and then or hang pictures requiring special tools. I don't know of any other organization that does as much for the kids as this one when it comes to quality of care, and my work has worked at other larger facilities in the past, we are now retired. I can't say enough good things! Thank you all for the good work that you do for the kids and the community!

This organization has the most caring and helpful leadership team with such a high retention of staff and volunteers!! The staff in management have been employed for 10-15+ years and all are committed to caring and quality.
I love their mission and vision statement "Kindness and Compassion in Action" and I have been serving on the Board since this year. Heritage Group Homes serves abused foster youth and changes young lives through their program and also through the engagement and commitment of their people.
