Mission: Health care without harm's mission is to transform the health sector worldwide, without compromising patient safety or care, so that it becomes ecologically sustainable and a leading advocate for environmental health and justice.
Programs: Global projects and international outreach (gpio) - a program of hcwh that works internationally with members and supporters to develop collaborative strategies and projects to advance hcwh's goals. The gpio program conducts international outreach to identify new members and supports the work of hcwh offices, partner organizations and members by providing technical assistance, training and international networking opportunities through public education, media work and advocacy. The group also works to influence international organizations and financial institutions to promote greater environmental sustainability in the health sector.
hhi - the healthier hospitals initiative (hhi) is a national campaign to implement a completely new approach to improving environmental health and sustainability in the health care sector. Twelve of the largest, most influential u. S. Health systems, comprising approximately 500 hospitals with more than $20 billion in purchasing power, worked with hcwh, the center for health design, and practice greenhealth to create hhi as a guide for hospitals to reduce energy and waste, choose safer and less toxic products, and purchase and serve healthier foods. Since the launch in 2011, the initiative has grown to more than 1,100 enrollee hospitals in 50 states and the district of columbia. Through hhi, we will show the community benefit of implementing sustainable operations, and will measure the impact on improved patient, worker and community health and reduced costs.
healthy food in health care (hfhc) - health care without harm's national healthy food in health care program harnesses the purchasing power and expertise of the health care sector to advance the development of a sustainable food system. Through advocacy and education, we motivate facilities to implement programs that explicitly connect all aspects of the food system with health. We catalyze sustainable procurement efforts, create clinician advocates, and inspire health care institutions to become leaders in shaping a food system that supports prevention-based health care.
