Mission: Habitat for Humanity Tucson builds homes in partnership with low-income families. Our mission is to eliminate poverty housing by building safe and affordable homes and put the subject of inadequate housing in the hearts and minds of people. Our goal is to facilitate community partnerships to promote values and individual responsibility.
Programs: Habitat for humanity tucson built and sold 16 new energy efficient and refurbished homes to low-income families in pima county az. As part of habitat's global impact partnership, habitat tucson sponsored 23 homes in mexico and bangladesh. Habitat tucson also completed 39 "a brush with kindness" home improvement and repair projects and completed 42 critical home repairs on non-habitat homes in pima county. Habitat tucson's outreach programs partnered with other community organizations to establish a community garden for 40 families, coordinated a facility improvement program for 9 homeless shelters, continued a 2-year $50,000 low interest loan commitment to the not-for-profit loan fund and provided meeting space for more than 70 local not-for-profit organizations.
the habistore receives donated furniture, appliances and other household items and sells these items to support the habitat mission. This year, the habistore accepted, diverted and recycled over 250 tons of building material, appliances, furniture and other supplies from the landfill and sold these items for $1. 2 million dollars. The proceeds from sales go directly to the purchase of land and construction materials to build homes in southern arizona. The habistore also partners with many other non-profits by providing furnishings for their operations, items for their thrift stores, and unique objects for their silent auctions.
homeowner services supports prospective homeowners interested in our home ownership and home repair programs. This year, habitat tucson held over 38 information sessions, helped guide 46 families through the application process and selected 16 families for home ownership. They also provided 9 homeowner education classes that provided instruction on budgeting, homeownership, and minor home repairs. The home repair program received over 200 inquiries and provided 81 home repairs this past year. Our 4,772 volunteers provided 46,556 hours of service to support the habitat mission in the following areas: construction, habistore, administrative support, committee members and family partners and mentors.
