Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Animals

Mission: Grand Rivers Humane Society is exclusively focused on local homeless pets and works very closely with Mesa County Animal Services to find loving homes for adoptable puppies, dogs, kittens and cats that end up at their shelter. We do not obtain pets from other counties, states or countries. Grand Rivers Humane Society also pays for extensive medical costs for dogs and cats that end up at Mesa County Animal Services injured or sick, as Mesa County Animal Services is unable to pay for these costs.

I tried two different times to adopt a couple of poodles Grand Rivers up for adoption. I entered my age on the application which is 64 and where I lived. I called Grand Rivers to inquire about the one poodle and was told my application had been denied. This very rude nasty lady talked to me like I was an old decrypted lady. She told me that the “facility “ that I lived in would have to tell her that they thought it would be good for me to have a dog. Really!! I am only 64 years old and have one dog. She also told me that the dog would not be a lap dog and would have to be exercised and she jumped to the conclusion that I had mobility issues, which I don’t. I’m able to get my little dog out for walks. Without ever meeting me she just judged me to be an old lady because I was over sixty. They don’t want to give their dogs to seniors which is really sad because we offer very living homes for the animals.
