Many free presentations have been extremely helpful and informative - on Medicare, aging, health issues.
Also, when I was injured and temporarily unable to drive, Gramatan Village found a volunteer to
drive me to a medical appointment and back home afterwards. They are doing a wonderful job.
My father was suffering from Alzheimer's Disease when I was first introduced to Gramatan Village via a free talk on this horrible disease. The mission of Gramatan Village, to help people age with dignity in place, spoke to me so much that I became a member and volunteer. After a year of witnessing the amazing things their small, dedicated staff accomplished and the care they showed for their members, I became a member of the board. I highly recommend seniors and families with aging family members avail themselves of the services of the important and wonderful asset to the community known as Gramatan Village.
I moved to Bronxville this spring and Gramatan has helped me learn about the community and direct me to the many services specific to active seniors. I am so grateful for the programs they provide and wish I could participate in all of them. Bronxville is very fortunate to have Gramatan. It is a gem for seniors in the community.
Gramatan Village has been a terrific local organnization to be part of. I joined on behalf of my mom and myself as a way for my mom, who lives alone, to have more opportunities to socialize. Between the open houses, monthly lunches and a variety of interesting activities updated every week, including seminars relating to all aspects of aging - evenproviding suggestions for a housekeeper for my mom - being a member of the organization has been a godsend. Thanks so much for the work that Grace and Kwee and all the other volunteers do!
I have had the pleasure of volunteering with this wonderful organization and I cannot recommend it highly enough! The mission is inspiring, dedicated to making a meaningful difference in the lives of our local senior citizens. The work is fulfilling and impactful, allowing volunteers to connect with and support those within our community.
The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, thanks to the members and dedicated internal team. Volunteering here has been a very rewarding experience!
Gramatan Village is an exceptional nonprofit dedicated to supporting older adults in their desire to age in place, offering a comprehensive range of services that foster independence, social engagement, and overall well-being. Their programs are tailored to help seniors remain in their own homes while staying connected to their communities, providing everything from transportation assistance and health advocacy to educational workshops and social events.
What sets Gramatan Village apart is its personalized approach to meeting the individual needs of its members. The caring staff and volunteers go above and beyond to ensure that seniors have access to reliable resources, companionship, and opportunities for continued learning and growth. Their strong community network enables older adults to maintain their quality of life, with the peace of mind that support is always nearby.
The organization also places a strong emphasis on social interaction, recognizing the importance of combating isolation as people age. Regular events such as group outings, cultural activities, and wellness programs promote social connections and mental stimulation, which are key to healthy aging.
Overall, Gramatan Village provides invaluable services that allow seniors to remain active, engaged, and supported, making it an excellent resource for those seeking to age in place with dignity and confidence.
I’m a senior and gramatan village has helped me to stay connected to others which is crucial to everyone’s well being plus they continually provide programs on topics key to successful aging. Thru their auspices I have done volunteering to the senior community which has been very rewarding for me and I have seen first hand how much the help provided has meant to seniors in need,
Not being a "joiner," I was at a loss with tons of empty retirement time until I found Gramatan Village. Since, I have enjoyed the meaningful company of others, joined fun activities, and heard stimulating and informative talks regarding health and successful aging. GV's caring admin staff and their kind and helpful members got me through my recovery from knee replacement. Now my days are full and fulfilling. I can't thank GV enough. It's a membership that I cherish.
Since becoming a volunteer driver I have met some wonderful friends at Gramatan village. Its nice to being able to help out my fellow members, and I truly enjoy their company. I hope I’ll be able to count on volunteers if, one day, I’m unable to drive.

Gramatan Village has enhanced my life since I retired some 7 years ago. It is a wonderful supportive organization which encourages participation on many levels. I have made wonderful new friends, participated in intellectually stimulating groups, and have expanded my own opportunities for personal growth. It has been a life changing experience for me.

I found a home at Gramatan Village when I retired a little over 5 years ago. The variety of stimulating activités offered, along with the opportunity to meet new people in the community, provided me with a sense of purpose as I adjusted to life in retirement. I continue to find joy in my involvement with Gramatan Village, particularly the intellectually stimulating book and movie groups. I’ve made new friends and definitely thrive on the sense of community. Grace Gilmer, our Executive Director, along with Kwee and Heather, have formed a truly cohesive team that shines a bright light on all of us.
There is no organization quite like Gramatan Village. Gramatan Village provides outreach and a sense of shared community to seniors, so vitally important in these years of our lives, a welcoming open door, and learning programs of a fabulous range.
We who are members as I have been for I believe four years now, feel fortunate indeed to share in what Gramatan Village has to offer and each in our own way, to try to pass it along to others.

I have been a member of Gramatan Village for several years and it has been a very rewarding and enriching experience. During Covid the wide variety of lectures and programs offered on Zoom was simply wonderful. The discussions before and after with staff and other members eliminated any sense of isolation. Now that things are getting more back to “normal” there are always monthly offerings of interesting programs, luncheons and events. The staff is remarkable in how they engage with members, offer helpful solutions and find such creative programs for diverse tastes. The members are also so pleasant, very interesting and welcoming. Overall it is just a wonderful organization
Lived in B'ville all my life, raised my children here also. When they graduated from the high school I left - 1982. Came back in 2014. No longer knew my way around the area.
Gramatan Village took care of all my needs from someone to help with my computer to handy persons, drivers and where to find whatever.
I even had phone calls from the office to ask how I was doing and if I needed anything else.
Con not have assimilated so easily without the help and attention Gramatan Village gave me.
Thank you.
Gramatan Village made it easy for me to settle in when I moved to Bronxville--instantly, I was able to join a stimulating book club and lunch with congenial fellow members and supporters at local restaurants. A few years later we started a movie club, and there have been many stimulating programs offered online. I also appreciate the benefits of a full membership--not only volunteer drivers and "techy teens" who help us seniors navigate the digital world, but also, in the midst of the pandemic, Gramatan Village found me a volunteer to remove my broken printer from my apartment and drive it up to Valhalla to be recycled. It's a wonderful support system, and one of the chief benefits of living in Bronxville. Joan Marlow Golan

Gramatan Village does a great job keeping seniors connected to each other in enjoyable ways like book clubs, game days, luncheons and events, and also in providing support services. I very much enjoy the literary book club and poetry group, and have gotten practical help with medical insurance, computers and transportation from Gramatan Village. Both Sherry and Kathryn are gracious, friendly and helpful to all of us, and the volunteers are great too.

I have been volunteering at Gramatan Village for the past 6 months. I was looking for several weeks for an agency that I thought I would enjoy volunteering for and I was very fortunate to find Gramatan Village. The staff and members welcomed me with open arms. The staff supported me in using my education and skills as social worker to work with the members of the program. Through outreach, advocacy, home visits and group work, I have made wonderful connections with some of the members of Gramatan Village. Being a volunteer at Gramatan Village has given me a purpose to my life again as well as the opportunity to continue to help others. Gramatan Village offers diverse programs run by staff and volunteers to address and meet the social, emotional and intellectual needs of the members
From time to time, I do ‘volunteer drives’ for GV’s members..Dr appointments etc…
Such drives provide a wonderful opportunity to reach out and chat with the passenger, most of whom live by themselves and are quiet lonely. Very rewarding.
GV is a much needed organization in the community. It provides many services, activities, and programs that support older adults so they can lead active and independent lives. The dedicated staff and volunteers are always available when needed. A great organization!

Gramatan Village is a membership organization that enables individuals over 55 years old live comfortably and safely in their own homes and remain in the community they love.
The staff at GV is very experienced and is supported by volunteers and community partners who are available at all times to offer assistance in many ways. They offer many cultural educational and social outings yo prevent social isolation, offer counseling and support groups, provide transportation and help with household tasks and much much more.
My experience with them has been exceptional.
As a leader at NY Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital, I see first hand how difficult it has become for the aging population to successfully remain in the community. I was honored to join the GV Board, which has a mission that is so near and dear to my heart. The new Executive Director, Grace has innovative ideas about bringing even more opportunities to the GV community. Wonderful organization that really cares about servicing the needs of older adults.
As the head of an active community association, I have had the pleasure of working with Gramatan Village for a number of years and our continued support of their efforts is based on the professionalism and commitment they have consistently demonstrated to not only their members but to seniors throughout communities they serve. Whether it is providing transportation to doctors, meals for people who are isolated or companionship and social interaction covering a wide range of interests, Gramatan Village always works hard to address the special needs of seniors and does so with. great care and compassion. People from my community who have volunteered with Gramatan Village found it a highly rewarding experience.
Unbalanced, non-transparent organization that cares more about donations/ money than they do about actually serving their demographic and providing support against social determinants of health for older adults. Insular community and most of the Board of Directors that make the decisions are petty and agenda driven without any regard for professional conduct or adherence to any sort of policies and procedures. They let the one person who was dedicated to helping their constituents escape somehow and some of us are unsure as to whether they will recover from this unthoughtful and terrible decision. Gramatan Village's funding has been cut because the organization cannot justify their huge bank account and the fact that none of the money actually goes to serving their clients and members.
I am so glad we renewed our membership this summer because the virtual program offerings are fantastic. My husband and are still sustained by the wonderful two-part lecture on Picasso we just attended. I feel as though I have been on a museum tour with a true scholar.
Gramatan Village has made my transition from a home in Larchmont to an apartment in Fleetwood amazingly stress-free. It has eased any fears I arrived with, significantly. No more will I worry about feeling alone or abandoned. Gramatan Village reaches out and offers myriad programs and invitations designed to give every member a sense of family and an avenue to indulge in much-needed intellectual pursuits...and feel part of a wonderful community.
Some of my most dear friends are those whom I've met through Gramatan Village!
When I moved to Bronxville with my husband ten years ago I knew no one. In an effort to be more connected to the community I first joined GV as a volunteer, driving members to appointments. But in a short time my husband's illness dictated a change in my role and I began to depend on GV for a host of services that have made a huge difference in my life. Sherry and Katherine have been unfailingly helpful and supportive and have become my lifelines to expert advice as I navigate my husband's health care and my own mental health. The program offerings and support groups offered by GV are second to none. Bronxville is so lucky to have this organization that helps all members of the community connect and help one another. I'm very grateful to be a member.
The Bronxville area has been our home for the past three years. As seniors, my wife and I decided to acquire our co-op apartment in the area. The draw for us to relocate to this area was fueled by a desire to move closer to family. Good fortune knocked on our arrival. We discovered a vibrant organization that provides services enabling seniors to live productive lives and stay put in their community. That organization is Gramatan Village Inc.. I immediately joined the organization's Men's Club. Seniors of a wide range of ages and interests participated in significant luncheon discussions on a variety of important issues. I was pleased with the deep dives we took into understanding and resolving issues. The organization made arrangements for assistance for those who had a handicap to join with our men's club friends. Upon the Coronavirus resulting in the need for social distancing, the staff kept their constituents active by arranging for virtual meetings and programs. I suggest that their efforts rate quite a bit more than five star. We are grateful to be members of Gramatan Village.
Gramatan Village has been an enormous help to me. I have mobility issues and found out about it through a friend. The volunteers are terrific, helping me with rides and errands. We've had wonderful social gatherings, luncheons and parties in addition to informative meetings on lots of different subjects affecting seniors.
The pandemic has brought a new dynamic to Gramatan Village--Zooms and other Internet activities have greatly enriched our experiences. We have had discussions, games and wonderful lectures we can attend from our computers. We're able to stay connected, learn and make new friends.
I have the highest praise for Gramtan Village , its directors, board and volunteers..
Three years ago with my husband I moved to Bronxville from Manhattan . My major discomfort at the beginning was the feeling of being estranged and disconnected from the community .
At my age indeed is not easy to built a network of new friends .There were days when I felt very lonely . When I heard of the Gramatan Village organization , I decided to visit its office with poor expectations indeed.
It did not take long to understand and love the Gramatan mission.I felt immediately welcome by this community guided by empathy and generosity towards the others no matter how weak on in need they may be. Not to mention what The Gramatan is doing to assist psychologically and entertain through an amazing list of virtual cultural programs the members in these very challenging time of the pandemic. The list of initiative goes from practical help to ease the daily life of aged, frail people in need , trough a group of volunteers , to facilitate the dialogue between the young and older generation, and moreover to engage the members in selected cultural programs.Once again , thank you Gramatan!
Since we moved to BXV from the city, we did not have connections here. We were directed to the GV and found exactly what we needed. A very caring organization with great people both working and volunteering. The Men's luncheon discussion group, rates the best for me. It gave me a chance to meet people like me willing to take up topics that are important. Thanks GV!
You are the best!
I have been working with Gramatan Village for years. This organization is such a tremendous resource for our senior community. They offer so many educational programs, both live and virtual, to promote the health and wellness of their members. Both Sherry and Kathryn are extremely professional and compassionate. They always go the extra mile to make sure their members have everything they need to thrive in their environment. It has always been such a pleasure to work with Gramatan Village!
As a relatively new member of GV, I've been very impressed with the quality of the programs which I briefly experienced pre-pandemic and with the speed and professionalism with which they pivoted to remote programming as of March, including developing new, pandemic-related programs as well as adapting their prior programming to virtual mode. The organization's leadership is highly qualified and committed, and succeeds in providing an exceptional range of high-quality programs and services with very limited resources.

A wonderful program that provides seniors with the resources to stay engaged and manage their lives while aging in their own homes. With a tiny staff and a dedicated group of volunteers GV punches well above its weight allowing members to remain active participants in our community well into their later years.
As one of the founding members of GV, I am impressed daily with how much our members use our services and how important they are to insure that each one of us can remain in our own homes as we grow older.
At some point in life, one checks out of the organizations that educated and stimulated you in your career. Foundations, think tanks, councils for this and that all become distant as one ages. How does one recreate that sense of community and mutual learning after one retires? I found the source of my ongoing education in Gramatan Village. Living in my own apartment and attending programs of the Village -- a book group, a well spouse group, a men's group, a sale at a local merchant , all became possible through Gramatan Village. Gramatan Village replaced what had been vibrant in my early life. My life is vibrant again!!
Gramatan Village is a nonprofit partner with RSVP of Westchester. We send volunteers to assist with activities for their members. The personnel is super open to using the volunteers' unique talents. If a volunteer has an idea for an activity or program, they'll listen with big ears. I am happy to have a place to send my "big thinking" volunteers. Additionally, they are a partner extraordinaire - keeping in mind how we can work together on so many levels. It's a mutually beneficial relationship.
I have been working with Gramatan Village for a few years now and can honestly say that they are a first class organization. Sherry and Kathryn are truly professional and care very deeply about their members and their community. The programs available are top notch. Gramatan Village is such a tremendous resource for the Bronxville community. I highly recommend people explore all they have to offer.
GV is an amazing organization, one I'm proud to be associated with. It offers a wide array of social opportunities as well as supportive services to seniors who wish to continue as active and engaged community members.
Gramatan Village does an incredible job at helping our senior citizens stay independent and in their homes for a longer period. The staff and the cadre of giving volunteers are dedicated to the cause. It is a truly wonderful organization.
