Nonprofit Overview

Mission: Global Animal Partnership, a nonprofit charitable organization founded in 2008, brings together farmers, scientists, ranchers, retailers, and animal advocates—a diverse group with the common goal of wanting to improve the welfare of animals in agriculture. Our signature program, the 5-Step Animal Welfare Rating Standards, recognizes and rewards producers for their welfare practices, promotes and facilitates continuous improvement, and better informs consumers about the production systems they choose to support.

Global Animal Partnership allows
me to keep eating some meat without feeling like I am supporting the horrifying mainstream factory farms! I tell everyone I know about this program so that they too can support the humane treatment of animals and real farmers who care about animals biological needs. Not everyone will go vegetarian but I know that people will go humane and your company makes a huge difference. Thank you so much!

I am into animal welfare and the treatment of all animals. I also understand that not everyone is going to become a vegetarian. That is why I think it is important for groups like Global Animal Partnership to exist. We must ensure that farmed animals are given the most humane conditions possible. If many saw what happened on factory farms they would never eat meat again. I am so glad that i discovered this non profit at whole foods. It is the only place I buy my meats now. It gives me comfort knowing that the meats I purchase were raised humanly.

I discovered GAP through shopping at Whole Foods. I wanted to make informed choices about the animal products that my family and I used. Humane treatment and attention to animal husbandry and care in the food animal industry was my first priority in my food purchase decisions. GAP has developed a wonderful program for farmers to follow that elevates the care that the animals receive and is a clear and concise stepwise program. Farmers can start at step 1 and progress as far as they would like up to step 5 (which is the highest level). Each level seeks to provide higher and higher standards of animal husbandry to ensure that the animals are physically and mentally well cared for. I would encourage everybody to check out the website. Currently this step program is for meat producing animals;however, they are working on a similar program for dairy and egg animals as well.

As a veterinarian I care deeply about animal welfare. I am happy to see that as the public becomes more aware of where their food comes from, programs like this one can offer consumers welfare friendly choices. We are starting to head in the right direction and this is a great example of what we can achieve by "voting" with our dollars.

global animal partnership is doing a great thing with the 5-step program for animal welfare. they are paving the way of the future. i am a whole foods shopper, as well as other markets, and do not purchase my meat at any other super market because of GAP's 5-step rating. it lets me know i am getting a product that was treated well, happy in its life here, and humanely slaughtered. not to mention lacking in antibiotics and other harmful chemicals used by some other producers.
i like that their website is extremely easy and clear to navigate in order to get their message to the masses.
I might eventually become a vegetarian, but i know that the country will never have more vegetarians than non-vegetarians. therefore, i will continue to buy GAP's wonderful products to support healthy meat-consuming and hope and advocate for its expansion. they show the world how meat-eating can be ethical, healthy and of great quality and that is it worth the extra cost in order to have peace of mind about the products we are buying not only in its quality but especially the quality of life for the animal.
