In the spring of 2002, a few community oriented dental professionals with the dedication of a multitude of volunteers and supporters in St. Louis, Missouri launched the first Give Kids a Smile (GKAS) event to provide underserved children with free, comprehensive dental care, including examinations, professional cleanings, fluoride treatments, sealants, restorations, oral surgery and x-rays. Give Kids A Smile – St. Louis is a not-for-profit which continues working to eliminate the silent epidemic of dental disease for the millions of children who cannot sleep, eat properly, pay attention in school, or simply smile. Since it began almost 10,000 children have received over $4.5 million dollars worth of dental care.

Dentists and dental professionals donated services valued at $496,160 for the february and october clinic combined. These contributed services and offsetting expenses are not included in the revenue and expenses reported on the 990.
