FONNJ(Friends of Nepal, NJ)has been a great source of inspiration, and it has been my good fortune to have helped fund their worth-while projects, including micro-loans, libraries, scholarships and the like. FONNJ could be a model for some other charitable organizations, insofar as return on investments and dollars going where they need to go and should go. My pleasure.
As I signed up for a trip that would take me to the other side of the world, I was nervous and started second guessing why I signed up for this journey. In the end, I found that being a part of this humanitarian mission to Nepal was the most incredible and life changing experience I have ever had. An amazing thing I got out of this trip is the fact that I have made lifelong friends from this journey. Everyone in Nepal was extremely welcoming and caring towards myself and the four other students from America. Since I have returned home from Nepal, I have stayed in touch with some of the great friends I made while in Nepal. Friends of Nepal-NJ is successfully impacting lives in Nepal through education, job training, micro credit, sustainable livelihood project and meeting the basic human needs of clean water and hygiene training. As a volunteer, FONNJ has shown they are focused on long term results in peoples' lives. FONNJ is not interested in a simple fix, but is willing to look at a problem through different sets of eyes and develop an action plan to solve the real problems behind poverty. FONNJ programs are preparing future leaders in Nepal, and will continue to produce well educated and trained Nepalese to lead their country into the future.
I can honestly say that travelling to Nepal, and the experiences that I had while there with the fellow Rotaract Clubs was something that I will never forget. I feel that it was a life changing experience for many different reasons. For one, I met so many people while I was there, whom I have continued to stay in touch with. It’s a great feeling to be able to say that I have friends halfway around the world. Also, being able to experience what life is like first hand in a developing country was an experience that has allowed me to take a different perspective on the life that I have been provided with. I am very impressed with the work Friends of Nepal is doing in the our community here and in our homeland Nepal. Especially, the latest project to teach young people about their culture and language. This type of programming encourages community involvement and gives greater opportunities for young people to learn about their cultural heritage.
Scholarships and micro-credit program is also making a big difference in the lives of many poor people in Nepal.
As an experienced nonprofit professional, I give FONNJ an A+ for its stewardship of its funds. This organization makes donations go further than any I am aware of anywhere. Their wide array of programs and activities in humanitarian services are impressive and all are delivered with a high degree of competency. Friends of Nepal-NJ funding comes from many sources making it a strong, viable organization that serves its community.
