The shelter -- which now has added "Care" to its name, to become Anne Arundel County Animal Care & Control -- continues to successfully find homes or rescues for ALL animals that have been made available for adoption/rescue. Friends of AACACC continues its mission of helping to improve and save the lives of animal there, including paying for a veterinarian to come to the shelter once a week to examine animals with health issues and taking pets with more urgent medical needs to local vets.
Friends of Anne Arundel County Animal Control was created in 2014 by the shelter's volunteers to help improve and SAVE the lives of homeless animals at this county-operated shelter, which is chronically underfunded but not allowed to accept monetary donations itself. The money raised by Friends of AACAC -- $52,000 in 2015 -- helps the shelter by paying for such basics as flea/tick medications, kitten milk replacement, and a veterinarian who comes weekly (there is no vet on the shelter's staff). Friends also promotes the good deeds done daily by the shelter on its Facebook page (www.facebook.com/FAACAC) and website (www.faacac.org), and spreads the word about the shelter to new audiences by cosponsoring such unusual shelter events as a combination car show/pet adoption event. This 501(c)(3) nonprofit is run entirely by unpaid volunteers; its president is a CPA, so its bookkeeping is impeccable. I am very proud to be associated with both the shelter and with Friends of AACAC!
