Mission: The mission of freedom from fear is to impact, in a positive way, the lives of all those affected by anxiety, depressive and related disorders through advocacy, education, research and community support.
Programs: Mental health wellness week: a national public campaign on mental health wellness which promotes mental health wellness and the benefits to both the mind and body. It also educates communities on how to implement mental health wellness in their life and encourages them to facilitate programs centered on mental health wellness during the week. Resources are provided to promote events. Mental health wellness week was offered as a free program in 2014 where participants were able to download posters and factsheets directly from the mhww. Org site to run wellness programs in their area.
"national anxiety and depression awareness week (nadaw)" this program is to build awareness and create venues for public education about anxiety and depressive illnesses. Freedom from fear has created the campaign on anxiety and depression awareness. Since 1994, the program has been launched during the first week in may as national anxiety and depression awareness week. In 2012 the program continued to work with hospitals, universities, schools, libraries, mental health associations, and many other community-based organizations to spread awareness about mental illness and the availability of treatment in their areas. Hundreds of thousands of people have participated in this program through the years. Freedom from fear has distributed over 500,000 pieces of literature and over 10,000 films on different mental illnesses.
south beach psychiatric center (sbpc): due to the damage sbpc endured from sandy in 2012 many of the inpatients were moved to other psychiatric homes in the city, leaving patients in a fragile state. The overwhelming success of the making recovery work project created in 2012 led fff to continue the program in 2014. Fff packaged over 500 holiday gifts for distribution to all of the inpatients at sbph. Fff also began a nutrition program at sbpc through a new eric peselow memorial program to provide nutritious meals and education to up to 50 outpatients a week.
