Causes: Crime & Law, Dispute Resolution & Mediation
Mission: Our goal is to enhance meaningful access to justice and timely, peaceful, and effective dispute resolution to underserved populations in emerging democracies.
Results: Establishment of an extensive network of court-annexed and private mediation centers run by host countries: India - over 200,000 cases processed with a settlement rate of 55-65%; Balkans/The Republic of Georgia - delegations provided counseling and training to key stakeholders in the dispute resolution process.
Target demographics: strengthen and help create mediation centers (both court-annexed and private) in order to achieve conflict resolution
Direct beneficiaries per year: Court-annexed and private mediation centers in India, Bulgaria, Croatia and The Republic of Georgia, working with hundreds of judges, lawyers mediators and litigants. In India alone, these centers have processed over 200,000 cases (with settlement rates in excess of 60%).
Geographic areas served: developing countries with overburdened court systems - e.g., India, Croatia, Bulgaria, The Republic of Georgia, only at the invitation of the host country.
Programs: training, education, and counseling to courts, coaching lawyers and mediators, facilitating coordinated efforts by key stakeholders (bar associations, judiciary, mediators, and litigants) to build high quality, sustainable and efficient dispute resolution systems and programs
