Also would give a zero. So many similarities between these earlier reviews for my case too. Adopted 2 puppies (7 weeks old) Jan 2023 and they had constant diarrhea from the minute I picked them up. After many weeks of good vet care and $$ I got them healthy. When it came time to get my money back for getting them spayed in May/June (the $100 per dog they were supposed to be holding) I got the run around. Finally, it was in October after many emails, I sent another email to them that I was not going to donate this money that they then ghosted me. PS- you cant reach them by phone and the addresses they have under their non-profit "permit" wouldn't/couldn't accept mail. Read the many other similar stories posted here. With all the good county animal shelters this small private adoption group should be off everyone's list. I would encourage those that were wronged by this group to reach out to Virigina state offices that have the tools and responsibility to address.
I adopted two puppies from this group on 12/31/22. I paid a spay/neuter deposit for each puppy to ensure I would get them fixed. This fee was to be refunded to me upon proof of the procedure. I had the puppies fixed and sent the required paperwork in April 2023. It is now almost December 2023 and I have received no $$$...nothing but excuses, and now they are not even responding to my emails. If you adopt from this group, I would not expect to see your "deposit" back. Communication with this group is only by email and is not consistent...and apparently, my check is still in the mail.
We adopted our dog in Nov. 2022. They told us it was a Rottweiler mix, however she was not even close. She was in heat when they showed her to us and because of this, and the fact we live 2+ hours from Colonial Heights, they said that we could take her to our own vet and they would be reimburse us on proof of her spayed for the $150 they charged us for her spaying. After we had her spayed and sent them the vet charges as proof I contacted them four times to get them through refund us the $150 however they would not. They kept using the excuse that the bookkeeper only came in once a month and they would ever send us a check for following month, which never happened.
Our dog had parasites and was not in good health when we got her.
Though I knew she was not what my husband was looking for, and I tried to talk my husband out of it, he is a soft kind-hearted man, didn't want to see her homeless.
Do not adopt from these people!
Hello my wife and I adopted from here not once , not twice ,but four times. It was quick and easy ! I loved the adoption documents because it covered me as well as them . Dogs came clean with their shots and fixed … I got a response quick they got back to me with ease and they were very pleasant! Truth be told I’m ready to start looking for number 5!!! I highly recommend them as a place to consider adoption! Thanks again Jimmy V.
I found a dog on Petfinder with this rescue. I read all these reviews and was concerned, but I also went on the FB page and emailed the rescue. After emailing and talking on the phone with them, I went ahead with the pet adoption. In the end, the adoption didn't work out, but the rescue and all its volunteers treated me well, answered my questions honestly, and always responded promptly. I'd definitely recommend them.
I would not work with this organization again. They will try to extort you out of money and pawn off helpless, sick animals for gains. Read about them on the internet and you’ll see why they operate behind a screen without phone or comments on their business pages. They might find themselves in a bad situation if they continue to operate as they have: selling sick, un-sterilized animals, self vaccinating, while ripping good people off. Read news articles. A popular RVA shelter refuses to work with them and I wish I had, too!
Please do not give this organization any of your money. They have been the most frustrating organization to work with. They will not communicate with you except through email, where they are extremely rude and demanding. They give you basically no information once you've paid them. They are charging $395 for STRAY PUPPIES with the promise of fixing the dog for you free of charge. Won't give you any sort of time frame and will tell you to "wait for your name to come up on the list". They are demanding that you send them forms and test results in specific formats, yet won't communicate with you when you're asking them for information. Extremely disappointed in my experience with this organization. I will never recommend someone adopt from Forgotten Tails, and will actively advise against it.
I traveled from NH to adopt a dog from Forgotten Tails. They responded to my initial email almost immediately, and answered all of my questions. When my application was approved, I made an appointment and made the nearly 10 hour drive to meet Autumn. Their description of her behavior was spot on, and I took her home. Yesterday we had our first vet appointment, and the vet confirmed that Autumn is healthy. My experience with this rescue group was wonderful, and I could not be happier to have found such a great dog!
Everytime i emailed them about an "available" pup they would say the dog is not available. Then someone finally emailed me back and said they had two available and to submit an application (which i already did for both of them) then i waited a week and emailed them again and she said it usually doesnt take a day but let me check your application. She supposedly checked and emailed me back and said " Hi, i just cjecke your application, it was denied". I dont mind them denying me. However, they could have let me know earlier so I didnt waste my time on them. Secondly, they require at least a townhome or house for most of the dogs (at least thats what she told me ( which i live in a townhome with a backyard). I am starting to think they just dont have pups available and they are just false advertising. This is what makes people buy dogs instead of adopting.
Last night, I received an email from Forgotten Tails that my dog application had been accepted! I was sooo excited. I quickly emailed back to express my excitement. The management team informed me that the specific dog I was interested in was not available; however, there were siblings available. I told her that was perfect! She responded to my email with my appointment time: Monday, May 11th at 2:30 pm. I confirmed that I would be there. On my way, I stopped and bought the dog carrier as required then made my way to their facility. Upon arrival, there was no one there. I sat in my car and waited. Finally, their car pulls up to mine. I walked to the front door to be let in. The owner came around and asked me how I could he help me. I informed him that I had a 2:30 pm appointment. We walked to the back of the building where his wife (presumably) stood unloading dog crates into the building. I repeated to her that I had an appointment. Without looking at my email confirmation, immediately goes "an appointment for today? It must be a typo." I was initially shocked. I drove over two and a half hours to pick up my pup. She pulls up the email on her end and says "oh yeah. That's a typo." I said "well I've driven over two hours, is there any way I can any dogs today?" She responded "you can't--you won't. They're at the vet today." She then repeated "yup, a typo"
I stood there shock for two reasons: first, I don't believe you write "Monday, May 11" as a typo. Perhaps, you may mix up the days and say "Tuesday, May 11th" or "Monday, May 12th." But she correctly noted the day of the week and the date. Further, she did not apologize nor was she remotely faxed that I would drive a total of 5 hours and not receive a dog. The lady did not even attempt to accommodate me or rectify the situation. This is beyond piss poor customer service. They should NOT be in the animal care business because every approved doggie home is an opportunity to place a dog, and for her to completely ignore that this dog would not be able to be placed but instead spend another night in a kennel clearly shows her character (or the lack thereof). Finally, I wouldn't have minded returning tomorrow; however, I have a prior obligation and she didn't even attempt to make sure I was locked in for tomorrow. If you are local, maybe they are a good place to look for a pet home; however, expect below subpar customer service and rude managers. AVOID IF POSSIBLE!!!!!!
My family adopted two puppies from this organization. They gave us contracts, took the time to allow us to ask a host of questions and gave us answers to all of them. They were very accommodating to our needs and our schedule as well. Both of our puppies were healthy and you could tell they were loved by their fosters. HOWEVER, when we did encounter an issue, three weeks after adopting, we contacted them and received help and a response right away.
The issue was of no one in particulars "fault" and the volunteer helped us figure out a solution right away. We are thankful for this organization and how great they are!
