After retiring and moving from CA I researched places to volunteer. I found myself fortunate and blessed to discovery this wonderful forever home, Fandango Sanctuary, where animals are loved unconditionally - and - for the rest of their lives. I see the love Iris shows the animals. I plan to volunteer at Fandango Sanctuary for as long as I’m able. It is a privilege to work with someone like Iris who is so compassionate for the lives of these animals who can’t speak, but she speaks for them. I highly recommend that if you are interested in volunteering and have a love for animals, this is the place to be. What I love about this organization is that 100% of donations go to the animals.
This animal sanctuary is a shining example of the immeasurable value of the human-animal bond. Iris, the founder, is an amazing woman, who works incredibly hard to keep all her rescued creatures safe, comfortable and happy. We visited one afternoon and met all the four-leggeds and nonhuman two-leggeds, and they are each divine! If not for Iris, these animal and bird souls would surely have wound up in terrible circumstances. We desperately need the Iris's -- and the animal sanctuaries -- of the world. We intend to revisit soon and to learn more from Iris as she has so much to teach us all.
Fandango Sanctuary is my Heaven on Earth. Iris is an amazing person who loves her animals and you can see how happy they are at Fandango. Every detail is beautifully done and charming. Iris works diligently with each animal and their unique personalities to ensure they are happy and comfortable within their own environment. I love all the animals who reside there and I enjoy bringing them fresh apples or watermelon. I enjoy volunteering there by helping paint the fence and anything else that needs to be done. I was so happy to find Fandango Sanctuary so close to where I live!!!!
Fandango sanctuary is such an amazing space for all of the animals! The cute Florida farm Iris has creatively built really shows how much love and compassion she has for each chicken, duck, donkey, cow, pig, and horse. I have personally made many memories here and have watched many do the same. This nonprofit sanctuary makes huge impact on her community and on the animals that need rescuing. Iris is a savior!
Iris came known to us when she was hired as a private caregiver for a beloved aging family member. Her compassion & commitment was unparalleled & she quickly became a member of our inner circle & family. Until I met her, I had no idea there was such a thing as farm animal rescue. Upon visiting Fandango Sanctuary, the love & compassion Iris showed to our human family member was apparent in her care of these rescue farm animals. Donkey’s, cows, pigs, chickens…and so much more. They live a life of loving farm luxury. And we are all blessed in being a part of Iris’s journey!
My daughter found Fandango when we were in a pinch and needed to quickly re-home her 4-H dairy cows. Iris responded to her with such care. After seeing the property we knew immediately that this was going to be the perfect spot for them. The attention that they receive is above and beyond and when we pop by to visit we can see how sweetly they respond to Iris. All the animals at the sanctuary are treated as precious pets.
One visit to Fandango and meeting Iris will give you an undoubtedly heart-warming experience. Her dedication to her family of animals is one of love and caring. She is a blessing to her family and to her visitors.
An amazing facility! All creatures great and small and all so well cared for everyone has a home there not just a place to exist.
Upon arrival, fandango is like no other sanctuary that I’ve seen. The property has been beautifully kept while maintaining its native Florida feel. Many of the animals are happily mingling, in shady areas with one another. Iris’ personalized touches throughout the property display her dedication to making the sanctuary a truly special space.
Hi, my name is Melanie I’m writing this review because I’m so very passionate about what Iris does at the Fandango Sanctuary in Englewood Florida , she has over 100 Animals in her care , Horses , dogs , cows chickens Donkeys but to name a few !
The work is none stop morning till night , feeding mucking out the horses , tending to the land it never ends … Iris does this from her heart ❤️
She also has special needs come Stay for the afternoon so they can learn and pet the animals I love visiting Iris she always welcomes you with open arms and a cup of tea or coffee .

I have been going to see Fandango Sanctuary for 3 years now. Every time I visit Iris is always hard a work taking the best care of the animals and updating the enclosures to make it the best it can be. She is such a wonderful person with a big hard and every animal has a name and is loved.
She is always putting her animals before herself, making sure they all happy and even tucks in her turkeys and ducks every night. Its really cute. And you see the love they all have for her.
Can't say enough about the amazing experiences I have when visiting Fandango Sanctuary.

An animal sanctuary is a facility where animals are brought to live and to be protected for the rest of their lives. Founded, managed and run by dedicated volunteers, Fandango Sanctuary is currently home to donkeys, horses, one wild boar and 40 chickens, roosters, dogs and cats. It is a no-kill safe haven where animals receive the best care that can be provided. Animals are given the opportunity to behave as naturally as possible in a protective environment. Fandango also works with a local bee keeper who picks up unwanted bees and brings them to Fandango and takes care of them. Fandango is not government-funded, but depends on public support in the form of volunteering, monetary contributions, donations of food and materials, spreading the word, and in some cases, adoption. I have visited the “ranch” twice and have been working with management to broaden their reach of donors and, in particular, to expose Fandango to local community foundations and sources of operating support and disaster relief. I feel we have been successful.
Unlike animal shelters, sanctuaries do not seek to place animals with individuals or groups, instead maintaining each animal until their death. However, some, like Fandango, offer re-homing services. Fandango, for example, has characteristics of both a sanctuary and a foster shelter where some animals may be in residence temporarily until a good home is found and others may be permanent residents. Fandango has been a Satellite and Adoption Center for Peaceful Valley donkey rescue, the largest donkey rescue in the USA, since September 2019 and since has fostered and found permanent private homes for many of their donkeys. Fandango also takes in chickens from the Charlotte County Mosquito program. Every year they retire chickens in the mosquito monitor program. Their horses are insured with a membership in the United States Equestrian Association. Fandango is affiliated with Loveland Center, a daycare for people with special needs. Located in North Port, Venice, Port Charlotte and Bradenton FLA, they visit once a week to volunteer, helping with repairs, taking care of the pasture, animal care.

My children and I stayed on the farm with Iris for a week while on vacation.
Iris has a wonderful home and farm for all the animals she rescues. She treats them as precious family members. It was such and joy for the kids and I to wake up there and visit with all the animals. It’s a great place!!!!
I volunteered here after hurricane Ian made lots of damage to the sanctuary. Iris cares a lot about the animals she rescues and provides them a very happy loving home. It is amazing to hear the stories of all the animals she has taken in through the years!
Wonderful Sanctuary. We are donating since several years and 100% of the donation is going towards the animals. Animals are very well cared for and very loved. We definitely will continue to support this great cause. We visit regularly and are happy to see how this Sanctuary is growing!

During our visit, we were very impressed by the number of animals she cares for, and the beautiful home she has created for them. Iris works several additional jobs to pay for animals feed, vets, barns, fencing, and repairs. I definitely recommend Fandango Sanctuary as a worthy recipient of your donations.

This is an amazing beautiful sanctuary from chickens, donkeys, a pig named Wilbur and it’s like walking into a small Fandango arc of life! It’s amazing what the drive full of passion and commitment can push an individual to do and Iris’ mission continues to stand strong. I was in awe and fell immediately in love with Fandango the second I stepped foot there and will always be willing to share their story for continued support and contributions to keep it standing, running and healthy! Fandango Sanctuary has helped countless animals from abandoned livestock to street dogs and even wild pigs. Iris helps these animals not just have a place where they’re taken care of physically, but also gives them the attention and love they deserve.
There is no place on Earth like Fandango Sanctuary! We stayed in the Air BnB one winter, and stop for a visit every time we visit friends in Florida.
Iris genuinely loves each animal on this rescue, horse, donkey, chicken, bee....and all the rescues in between! She pours her heart and soul into this special farm.
Spending an hour, a week, or longer at this Sanctuary brings such peace. Iris and the animals have become our friends, and the beautiful grounds lend themselves to quiet walks and contemplative sits! We will return often.
I have lived here on this animal sanctuary for almost a year and I must say Iris is one of the most compassionate, humble people I’ve ever met. All of the animals that live on the sanctuary (which include 2 of my personal goats) are like family. I have never felt more welcomed anywhere. Iris puts her heart and soul into taking care of every animal and works her butt off to make sure they are well cared for. The world would be a much better place if there were more people like Iris in it!
