I have known Candace since 2016 when I adopted my first mustang from a local kill pen in Bowie, TX. She was so supportive along the way all throughout my journey especially this being my first mustang adopted. I have followed Candace’s journey with Evanescent Mustang Rescue and Sanctuary and have always felt she was doing the very best for each of the mustangs she comes in contact with making sure they are in the best of care and because of that I have the utmost respect for her and her work. I have met her in person and feel even more of a kinship having known her and seeing first hand how kind and considerate she cares for the horses and for humans. She is kind hearted and also steps up with grace and compassion when something needs to be done. I am very thankful for her and her when and continue to support her efforts throughout her journey.
I started working with them back in December of 2019. I was hooked after I fostered my first mustang Renia who led me to shaker my second who we adopted and let me tell you she is a miracle mare. She got sick with triple E later that spring from previous owners not vaccinating her properly. I contacted the lead of the sanctuary and we jumped into action doing everything we could to save her life! She had a 2% Chance to live. We had contacted several vets and eventually got one to come out and check her out. They helped me pay for the costs to save her life even tho the vet said don’t be surprised if you come out tomorrow and she’s down. To this day we don’t know how she survived. She fully recovered and went off to training for 30 days shortly after. I was pregnant with my daughter otherwise I would have done it myself. She’s a little over 15 H and would be a lap dog if she could. During her recovery she and my son bonded on a level I had never seen before. He was barely 3. She had no training at that time. When she did come home from training they were inseparable. You can put anyone on her. You could let her sit 2 months and she’s the same horse. The sanctuary was amazing to work with helped us find our shaker helped saved her life and even to this day is always checking on her! They have been so kind to my kids and myself over the years. After shaker I went and got another mustang and fostered many after that! These people are the real meaning of saviors. We love y’all and can’t wait to be able to foster more!
I have been volunteering for Evanescent for over 5 years in one form or another and have seen their followers on Facebook grow by thousands. With so many rescues out there and so few trustworthy fosters, Candace and the volunteers that remain are working extra hard to keep the supporters they have and are trying new things to show more people the good things they do for BLM Mustangs and Burros. This rescue has transitioned more toward rehab of Mustang and Burros and is using evaluated candidates for the new Veterans and 1st Responders therapy program. I commend Candace for sticking with the rescue she started through all the haters and hard times and also for all the friends that have stuck by her.
