Mission: To promote and provide access to land, housing, capital and employmentopportunities for disadvantaged and low-income people; to promote the conservation and/or management of land and natural resources and for related charitable and educational purposes.
Programs: Equity trust fund: enabling socially conscious lenders and donors to support the preservation of affordable working farms, the development of affordable housing, and the implementation of other socially beneficial and environmentally sustainable projects. The fund added five new projects in 2016. The current porfolio as of the end of the year included twenty-eight projects representing the full range of the fund's mission.
education and technical assistance to promote the establishment and sustainability of environmentally sound farms that benefit their local communities. Support for the permanent protection of farmland, farm infrastructure, and the affordability of these resources to working farmers. In 2016, equity trust's work focused on its hudson valley farm affordability program while also supporting farm protection efforts in ma, ca, pa, and co; providing training for land trusts on innovative approaches to farm protection; and responding to dozens of assistance requests from farmers, land owners, and land trusts from around the country.
property stewardship: equity trust owns and stewards permanently preserved and affordable farm properities in new york and new hampshire, and a mixed-use building providing affordable rental housing and office space in massachusetts. Equity trust is also the holder of conservation easements permanently protecting farm properties in california and massachusetts.
