Causes: Education, Literacy, Remedial Reading & Encouragement
Mission: A christian community center that serves to positively impact the lives of "at-risk" children, youth, and families within lakeland's inner city, through programs and partnerships that develop the mind, body, and spirit.
Programs: Kids programs:1: kids club - a children's program for students ages 4 yrs - 5th grade. The kids club program meets at the dream center and in local neighborhoods using games, music, & mentoring to teach valuable life-skill lessons to students in high-risk communities. 2. The well kids - a hot breakfast is served on sunday mornings to inner city kids, while allowing volunteers to spend time sharing hope and encouragement to the children. Continued on schedule oteen programs:1. Next! - a thursday afternoon program that allows middle schoolers to discover what is next! In life for them. The students are encouraged to make the best choices possible when it comes to family, school, relationships, faith, and whatever life may bring next! 2. The rock basketball league - each week teen boys from local middle and high schools are placed on teams with adult mentors who coach them. The coach's prime directive is to foster healthy, positive relationships between participants as they build structure through an organized league. 3. Risk club - every tuesday evening, an experienced teacher and his team bring incredible resources for success to the students. The students are taught many areas of financial management, how to apply for a job, and the paths to follow to succeed in college. 4. Youth for christ - a separate weekly mentoring program for teen boys and teen girls that teaches discipleship by dedicated leaders and mentors. Adult & family programs:1. The well - a sunday morning breakfast gathering for people of all ages within the inner city community, offering hope, care, and encouragement. 2. Pregnancy care center - partenering with "a woman's choice & options for women" a free, weekly pregnancy and testing clinic is offered at the dream center. This program is facilitated by professional trained nurses that provide care and counseling to the women in need. 3. Adult classes - these tuesday & thursday classes address topics such as personal financial management, computer skills, personal integrity, anger management, parenting, and more. 4. The grove cafe - offers free coffee and pastries to the community every week; providing an environments that foster stronger communities and safer neighborhoods. 5. Senior's outreaches - each week, volunteers work with local seniors homes, spending time with residents (games, crafts, conversation, encouragement, etc. ). 6. Food & household goods distribution - a weekly distribution of perishable food items, clothing, and household goods. Volunteer programs:1. Adopt-a-block - a community service program that offers a consistent presence in our at-risk neighborhoods, offering food, clothing, services, and building strong relationships. 2. Street reach - a community outreach that empowers hundreds of volunteers from churches and organizations to come together and serve to the needy. Volunteers distribute hundreds of bags of food, clean & mow large areas of the inner city, host kids carnivals, distribute truckloads of clothing, and much more! 3. Mission trips - throughout the year, church and civic groups come from other countries to volunteer at the dream center for a short-term community service and/or ministry experience. These adult and student teams participate in home repairs, food and clothing distributions, summer children's and youth camps, conducting seminars, and more, making a great impact on individual lives and the community.
