Mission: The mission of the downstream project is to promote natural resource conservation by stimulating awareness, action, and alliances through visual arts and technology. The project focus is to increase awareness of environmental issues at local and regional levels and how they cumulatively affect us globally. As the saying goes "we all live downstream". And in the words of the downstream project's founder, george l. Ohrstrom, ii: the hope is that people will educate themselves and stand up and become a voice for downstream issues because they are exceedingly important to all of us. The downstream project continues to expand its role as a technical service provider working with partner organizations on a combination of donated, wholesale fee-for-service, and grant-funded projects. We have divided these into three major program service areas, listing clients and services provided, for the purpose of this report. The downstream project (tdp) continues to expand its role as a technical service

The downstream project also created a web presence for the back creek valley watershed organization in support of the easement program.
video productionspout run video journal: in ongoing efforts to promote the restoration of spout run, a landmark stream in clarke county, virginia, we produced a short video covering trout unlimited's youth education efforts, trout in the classroom (tic). The program offers students of all ages a chance to raise salmonids in a classroom setting and then release them into a nearby stream or river. Caring for the fish starts to foster a conservation ethic in the students. Downstream filmed the act of walking to a streambank and directly releasing the fingerlings into the water makes a concrete connection between caring for the fish and caring for the water. These video journal entries are funded in part by a grant to clarke county, virginia and the c spout run partnership from the national fish and wildlife foundation (nfwf) and the chesapeake bay stewardship fund and viewable on spoutrun. Org. Mending moore's creek: the downstream project produced a video for mr. Michael smith, usfws retired, on a trout restoration project on moore's creek. Cadets from the virginia military institute joined students from washington & lee university to help restore a small headwater stream in moore's creek state forest, near lexington, virginia. The shared goal of all the partners was to make this stream a more favorable habitat for the trout's long-term survival. West virginia conservation agency: in this video, the west virginia conservation agency presents a case study on the importance of proper septic maintenance and the environmental impacts associated with a failing septic system. The cost-share program available to assist sleepy creek homeowners with septic pumping or repair needs is explained. Funding for this project was made possible by a grant from the environmental protection agency's chesapeake bay program. Friends of bullskin run, water monitoring: this video was produced by the downstream project in partnership with the west virginia stream partners program and captures local volunteers gathered for a day of water monitoring on the stream at cool spring preserve. Alana hartman of the west virginia department of environmental protection led volunteers in a benthic macro-invertebrate test to learn more about the water quality and health of bullskin run. River walk on the farm: funding provided by the keith campbell foundation to capture footage of conservationist robert whitescarver's guided walk around his cattle farm on middle river in swoope virginia highlighting nutrient and bacterial count reductions as water travels through the restored riparian buffer system. Footage will be compiled into a demonstration video in 2018.
