Mission: Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch provides the best, and most innovative, trauma-informed care to kids and families through Residential Treatment Facilities, Outpatient Psychiatric and Psychological Services, and Spiritual Life Programs. In addition, Dakota Memorial School (DMS) provides a quality education for kids who have special learning needs because of psychiatric, behavioral and trauma issues—giving them the opportunity to learn, grow, and feel like human beings.
Results: The Ranch is accredited through CARF. We have served nearly 30,000 children and families (from 36 different states) since our start in 1952.
Target demographics: children, ages 10-17, who have mental health issues, developmental difficulties, autism-spectrum disorders, and other issues for which they need treatment.
Direct beneficiaries per year: about 1,000 children and their families.
Geographic areas served: North Dakota (processes available for admission from children out of state)
Programs: Residential Treatment, Outpatient Psychiatric and Psychological Services, Schools, and Spiritual Life Programs. All Ranch programs and services are trauma-informed and focus on the specific needs of each child.

Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch helps at-risk children who have experienced incredible trauma cope with their pasts to give them hope for the future. I have seen the Ranch help children who were treated like animals transform into confident, cheerful young adults through their compassion and care for their clients.

I am inspired, each day, by the courage and determination of the kids at the Ranch and the staff that help them heal. It is a one-of-a-kind place of hope and healing where kids find that they can have a bright future!
The Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch works hard every day to care for their residents and carry out their mission statement. The staff walk with the children and families through the good and the bad as they show Jesus' forgiveness, love and compassion.
I was surprised to learn the Minot warehouse manager chose to recycle clothing donations rather than sort and process them for fund raising for the need of the children.

I've worked at Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch since 1998. They have truly changed many children's lives. One child loved the Horse Program, and in particular, her horse Itch. This child had issues with anger, stemming from a tough home life. At one point in the summer of 2010, she helped another girl overcome her fear of horses by taking her out to the pasture with a staff-led group, allowing her to pet Itch and to stand beside her all the time. This was a beautiful moment when our resident could feel "success"--something she dearly needed.
