Mission: Crime stoppers mission is to assist houston area law enforcement agencies in facilitating the arrest and filing criminal charges by making rewards available to persons who furnish information which leads to the arrest and filing of charges.
Programs: Crime stoppers of houston operates 713-222-tips, a telephone tip line. Information about criminal activity is received and transferred to law enforcement for immediate action. Callers are promised anonymity and cash rewards of up to $5,000 in exchange for their accurate crime tips. Our organization provides a safe forum for citizens to report crime in their neighborhoods and schools without the fear of retaliation. We are the eyes and ears of law enforcement in the community. - 2017 accomplishments: 309 fugitives arrested, 426 felony cases solved including 20 murders, 117 robberies, and additional seizure of $5,093. 15 in narcotics. 15 campus crimes were solved and $324,550 cash rewards paid to 420 tipsters. In addition to the restricted cash received by court fines to pay tipsters, area law enforcement agencies, television stations, advertisers and utility providers donated services valued at $1,476,134 during 2017.
the safe school program continued to work directly with students in grades pre k - 12 to make sure they are equipped with every possible tool necessary to stay safe on their school campuses, at home and on the internet. In 2017 we reached 40,335 students, 1,161 parents, 3,873 teachers and law enforcement officers and visited 163 schools. This program does not generate revenue as it is sponsored by designated and undesignated grants and donations to csoh.
in 2017, the free programs to the community educated over 479,000 citizens through monthly safe community seminars, events and the distribution of safety tips to community safety fairs. Our monthly e-newsletter and social media outreach as a whole reached almost 6 million people. A series of educational and awareness events were conducted throughout the year to give citizens the tools and resources needed to keep their families safe and free of crime. Citizen empowerment and education are central to the safe community program's approach to crime prevention. The safe community program continued work as a hub to bring all non-profits dealing with similar topics together, creating dialogue that makes us stronger and more efficient as a community of involved citizens. The safe community programs do not generate revenue and are funded by undesignated donations and donations designated to programs and initiatives such as human trafficking, domestic violence, identity theft, retail theft and animal cruelty.
