Adopted an adult dog from the rescue owner that had been taken from a puppy mill shutdown. She had the dog for about 2-3 weeks when I went to see her and in that time had the dog spayed and "vet checked" The dog was still matted with it's fur full of urine and feces and her eyes were nearly crusted shut. She claimed nothing had been done because the groomer she used was booked 2 months out. The vet shaved her stomach for the spay, why not do the whole dog? I knew I had a lot of work ahead of me, but couldn't bring myself to leave her behind to suffer for who knows how much longer, and I knew that being a mill dog she was going to be a bit of a project anyway.
As soon as I got her home I shaved her down, cleaned out her eyes, and used an entire pack of dog wipes to clean her off because due to the recent spay she couldn't have a full bath. Removing all that fur and garbage let me see just how skinny she was, about 15 pounds underweight. After a visit to MY vet I learned she had several issues that I was not informed of prior to adopting. These included: giardia, broken tooth, some sort of tendon injury (most likely a torn CCL, but she wasn't healthy enough to risk x-ray at the time), and she was heartworm +. She ended up passing away a few months after I adopted her when the heartworm treatment unfortunately had the complication of one of the dead worms embolizing to her lung and she collapsed while receiving oxygen treatment at the ICU.
More than the thousands of dollars I spent trying to save this dog, I suffered the worst heartache of my life as the sweet girl who had overcome so much hardship and psychological trauma died in my arms. I never received a response when I contacted the rescue regarding some of the initial medical findings, so I never bothered informing them of her loss, as clearly they didn't really care. It's not so much a rescue as a makeshift shelter run out of her garage lined with crates of dogs and stinking of urine and feces. I knew the risk I was taking by bringing her home, that the adoption fee of $800 was ridiculous given the state she was in and easily double or more than any other rescue in my area. However, I just couldn't walk away and leaver her in such a place when I knew I at least had the means to help. At the very least she learned what it was to be loved, warm, and fed.
This woman purposefully adopts out puppies with parvo & takes no precautions to prevent it in other puppies she has. She’s a backyard breeder who scams people into thinking she’s a rescue. Owens County has multiple complaints about her. We found out it’s illegal in Indiana for animal rescues to adopt out Unneutered animals but there she is letting people take home unaltered puppies. We saved our puppy’s life but not everyone can, when we contacted her back we caught her in not one or two lies, but many, many lies. When we adopted the puppy she told me all of the rest of the litter was gone but two. When I contacted to tell her about the parvo test she told me she still had the rest of the litter and no one had any symptoms, didn’t seem to care that our puppy had the virus during her care which means the virus is all over her yard & facility and most likely every puppy in her facility has it. So either she’s lying to us about the litter being gone, or she’s lying about the litter being there. Also caught her in a lie about the mother dog. She is scum who hurts puppies & lets them die, there were red flags when we were there but I just didn’t listen to my intuition. Her so-called rescue is filthy, she’s filthy & unkempt as well. Parvo lasts years in soil so any puppy you look at in her little selfie side yard is going to be in contact with the virus and most likely get it. If you don’t have an extra $3000 sitting around for parvo, your puppy will be dead in a week.
This rescue is a maternity and puppy rescue they have and they do bring in many mother dogs and puppies from shelters or owner surrenders rescues at one time will have lots of litters of puppies does not make them breeders just because they have puppies that's why there are maternity rescues they take in pregnant dogs that people allowed to run loose and get pregnant and that can also turn up to be at a kill shelter be put to sleep because they have too many animals so rescues at step in like this rescue steps in takes the animal and allows her to have her puppies and adopt out her puppies once they're spayed and neutered and space the mother and find her home any person would God sense God gave a goose would know that rescues do not breed animals just because we have many animals in our possession does not make them breeders or backyard breeders or anything else if you would like to have anything else to say about the rescue you're more than welcome to message her on Facebook or give her a call there's always two sides to a story and not everybody here is the other side because everyone has an opinion and the first amendment allows you to speak your words that may not always be the truth so instead of trying to ruin somebody's reputation please know your facts by talking to the person
Review from Guidestar
Beware. We adopted a puppy from her, the puppy was not yet 8 weeks. It was unaltered, I signed no contract to spay the puppy. this should have been my first red flag. We paid 300$ for the puppy. When we were there she said that she had the vet give the puppy shots. She gave us a generic record that was hand written and had no vet name one it. I later emailed and asked which Vet did the shots and she changed her story and said she did it herself. The puppy began showing aggressive behavior (yes at only 8 weeks). At first I thought maybe it was just normal puppy behavior but it progressed.
I took the puppy to a behaviorist/trainer at a reputable local vet. After the behaviorist saw the videos and examined the puppy she told me to return the puppy to the rescue asap for the safety of my current dog and my son. She stated that a puppy with this temperament should have NEVER been placed in a home.
Looking back when we picked up the puppy the rescue claimed that she was beating up on her brother. Not witnessing it myself I figured it was just puppy play. So she knew of this behavior when she placed the puppy in a home with a 2 year old child.
Unfortunately, I signed an agreement and am just out 300$ adoption fee.
****Also I was told by a few people that she is breeding dogs and selling them as rescues. I have also seen this mentioned in other reviews as well.
