Although I have yet to have had the chance to visit Cottontail Cottage Farm Sanctuary, I have followed them and donated when I can for many years. What a remarkable place! They take in farm animals who have come from some terrible situations, where they may have suffered, been abused or neglected. Never knowing what it felt like to be well cared for, safe and loved. But from the moment they arrive, their lives change, and you can follow their journey as they become healthy, more trusting and flourish in their amazing new home. It is truly incredible to watch the transformation through updated posts and pictures. I plan to visit Cottontail this Visitor season to finally get to meet all of the beautiful creatures who live there, and I can not wait to do so!
I love this Farm Sanctuary, the family who runs it & all of the volunteers! I have had the opportunity to visit the Sanctuary several times & it’s abundantly clear how happy all of the animals are - from rabbits, chickens & goats to pigs, cows, sheep & horses . It is VERY obvious that the owners of the sanctuary absolutely put the animals & their needs first. I highly recommend visiting Cottontail Cottage Farm Sanctuary to see for yourself, their visitors trail through the woods is magical.
My husband and I have been volunteers at Cottontail since 2019. We've been so impressed with the love...respect...care..and knowledge that Mat & Jenny have regarding so many different types of animals. They are both such a wonderful inspiration to us each time we volunteer there. The kindness & patience shown for all these precious animals they've saved from horrific situations shows in the animals personalities..They've gone from abuse..neglect..and terrible loneliness from being ignored to this happy..loving.. caring environment at Cottontail...we see it in their eyes each time we're there. .they know it's home..& they are safe now...We love being a part of Jenny & Mat's journey to save as many animals as possible & to make sure always & forever they know they're loved...Come for a visit and walk along a beautiful ..calming path through the natural forrest
created by Jenny & Mat & some volunteers who love Cottontail & their mission...so happy to be a part of it..
I am a long-time donor and more recently also a volunteer at CCFS. Words truly cannot express the magic of this place. Not only does it offer a safe, comfortable, and truly caring home for the many animals that are lucky enough to have found their way there, but it also offers a sanctuary for volunteers and visitors from the oftentimes cruel and ugly world outside. It does my heart and soul such good every time I visit CCFS or even just read their wonderful monthly donor updates and hear about all the good work that they are doing to help our animal friends big and small. Jenny and Mat work tirelessly, always putting the animals' welfare and needs first. CCFS is truly a great nonprofit that deserves to be known far and wide for its amazing work!
As a part of the Volunteer family at Cottontail Cottage Farm Sanctuary for 10+ years, I can honestly say, it is a place like no other I have ever known. It is difficult to even put into words the dedication, compassion, and most of all love that Mat and Jenny have for all animals, and how incredibly hard they work every single day to ensure that the animals who call Cottontail Cottage home have the best lives possible. Most of them did not come from good places. Many were abandoned, neglected, victims of a cruelty case, or just no longer wanted. They were not healthy, many were malnourished, and most were terrified of humans. Now in their amazing forever home, they are given the chance to live the life that all animals deserve, a place to flourish, where they are safe, cared for and loved. Beauty, magic and love abound at Cottontail Cottage, ask any of the animals who live here, they will be happy to tell you, as they now have a voice to do so.
I'm so impressed with the dedication Matt, Jenny and the volunteers have for these animals. They work tirelessly 7 days a week for all of the animals at Cottontail Cottage Farm Sanctuary, and it shows in how healthy all of the animals are. Matt and Jenny are also so knowledgeable in all of the care these animals need from pigs to bunnies. Most of their animals come from very sad situations and they go above and beyond to get the animals the help they need with veterinary care, medicine and healthy food. Truly an amazing magical place.
I’ve been a volunteer with Cottontail Cottage for several years and a supporter for far longer. The sanctuary is beautiful; the animals all have great indoor and outdoor spaces, and there is a lot for visitors to see as well. Most importantly, I’ve seen the animals’ health and spirits flourish. Every person I’ve worked with there is truly devoted to the well-being of the animals and the land, and their care shines through everywhere. CCFS does wonderful work, and I’m glad to be part of their mission.
We have been so impressed by the meticulous care and stewardship shown by the Cottontail Farm Sanctuary. They treat each and every animal with professional help and loving attention. “Go Go Lark ” their recent adoption , a beautiful horse left to die, is thriving under their care. We applaud their work!

Amazing place! So lovely you won't want to leave. The staff are very knowledgeable about the animals and take time to show you around and meet all the furry and feathered residents. Not only is it a gorgeous place but so well kept. I can't wait to visit next season. My favorite animal: George the duck!
Visiting Cottontail Cottage Farm Sanctuary, is literally, like stepping back in time. Parking is at a little turn-out by the road. Mind you, this place is extremely rural, located on the coast, in Downeast Maine. From parking, visitors walk a beautiful woodland path through the Rookery woods following whimsical signs that say things like: "Fairyland", "Mr. Tumnus' House" and "Watership Down". There are wooden bridges and hedges that follow the path with the animals just on the other side. In one word it is: magical! Once you reach the entrance to the sanctuary and see the old farmhouse and barns you not only feel like you are in a different time period - but after experiencing the magical walk - another realm! And then, you get to meet the 100-animals and hear their inspiring stories and get to know their unique and sweet personalities - it really makes a big impact. The animals are beautifully kept and so are the grounds. If you can't visit this place in person, go to their website and facebook page as they do a great job making it a vitual reality. I would give a galaxy of stars is it was an otion.
