Mission: To develop the capacity of our community to respectfully resolve conflict and repair harm.
Programs: Community based mediation services: cmrs helps neighbors, consumers, families, employees, landlords and tenants and organizations to find mutually acceptable and lasting resolutions. In 2017 cmrs developed new housing stability services and partnerships.
restorative practices for youth: cmrs provides school-based restorative processes to help youth constructively navigate conflict and decision-making and to help schools implement a restorative approach to building positive school climate and repairing harm in the wake of incidents. In addition, cmrs provides local police, county attorney's office and juvenile court with a community-based alternative designed to hold youth accountable to those impacted by their actions while also supporting youth in engaging positively with their community.
court-based mediation services: cmrs provides onsite court mediation services in minnesota's fourth judicial district court (hennepin county). Cmrs mediated disputes between landlords and tenants (housing court) and between individuals seeking or challenging restraining orders (harassment court).
training and public outreach: with a greater emphasis on training in 2017, cmrs provided mediation and restorative justice training to over 500 individuals, primarily in schools. In addition, through presentations and meetings, cmrs increased awareness of the collateral consequences of court interactions and the benefits of dispute resolution services.
