Mission:
The mission of Communities in Schools of San Antonio (CIS-SA) is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. National CIS founder Bill Milliken’s vision of bringing vital services to where children already spend their days – in school – is realized in Bexar County through the provision of comprehensive, on-site programs and services by our professional casemanagers.
Geographic areas served: San Antonio, Bexar County
Programs: Communities In Schools stay-in-school programs provide services in six different components to help students stay in school. The components include: counseling and supportive guidance, health and human services, parental and family involvement, career awareness, enrichment, and educational enhancement. CIS also offers Talent Search and Upward Bound programs in 9 San Antonio schools. These programs help first generation college candidates prepare for college. CIS also has over 500 volunteers, mentors, and tutors creating positive one-on-one relationships with kids.
