Mission: Our mission is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.
Target demographics: Chicago public school students
Direct beneficiaries per year: 50,000 students
Geographic areas served: Chicago
Programs: CIS of Chicago has two core programs: our Partnership Program creates meaningful connections between Chicago schools and community organizations. Schools, sometimes unable to meet the full range of student needs, are paired with community organizations that can address those needs with a rich diversity of support resources. Once priorities have been identified, our team links a range of support programs and services that reach the whole school. The programming fits into four main categories: behavioral/mental health, the arts, college and career readiness, and physical health and wellness. Our Intensive Program places master’s level professionals on-the-ground at schools to provide intensive support for students at risk of dropout. Each Student Supports Manager is responsible for a caseload of about 50 students, and they work with these students to create a plan and provide them with direct supports, like individual or group counseling.
