Mission: Clever Octopus is a waste-based nonprofit that inspires creativity and environmental consciousness through the resale of high-quality, affordable, and thrifted art and craft materials and by offering educational art and science programming for all ages and communities.
Results: 1- through our materials diversion program we've divert over 120,000 lbs of materials from the landfill to be used in art and craft each year. 2- through our nonprofit rewards program we donate over $15,000 worth of materials to 7 community selected organizations each year. 3- through our outreach programs we provide art & craft programs to over 9,000 community members each year.

Direct beneficiaries per year: 2300 students, 75 businesses divert materials, 38 nonprofits with services, 31 nonprofits with programs, and 335 volunteer opportunities

Programs: 1- Waste diversion partnerships: Individuals and businesses throughout the state of Utah divert their waste streams through us. 2- Community engagement and volunteer programming, recruitment, and support through, Donations, Volunteers, Work-Study and job training. 3- Craft-with-a-Cause program: Products created with diverted materials by community volunteers and donated to local nonprofits and those they serve. 4- Mini-grants program: Provide community nonprofits and classrooms the opportunity to apply for up to $50 store credit for materials to support an activity, program or event. Up to $500 per quarter is available. 5- Free and affordable STEAM programming for public and community partners. COI Educator & community program collaboration to provide STEAM kits or programs throughout the community. 6- Creative Reuse thrift store: Items not used in programming will be sorted, priced, and sold in our thrift stores. 7- Nonprofit rewards token box (NRP): Local nonprofits are chosen through a juried process to receive store credit through donations of local community members. A $5 purchase earns the customer a $1 in-store credit token to give to the nonprofit of their choice. 8- Cultivating local artists through our Reuse Market (consignment) and Artisan Business Development Program: Artists who reuse materials to create products are chosen through a juried process to sell in our Reuse Market. Artisans have the opportunity to learn skills through mentoring and training to create products to sell in the Reuse Market, online, and in other retail locations throughout Utah.
