Worked with CTP for a few months; started remotely then changed to onsite.
The working environment was flexible and friendly. Robert, the founder is pretty flexible with you in terms of location (remotely or onsite), hours, which day to work, and many other things. Basically, if you told him whatever you need with a good reason, and you will get it.
I have learned so many things, and people would learn different things based on the projects we are working on, and Robert will occasionally give you some tips regarding business attire, communication skills, etc. New ideas are always encouraged, and Robert shares his thoughts and asks for inputs for the projects. One project I have worked on was creating a recruitment deck PPT, and I definitely learned a lot regarding PPT skills. Do I currently use a lot of those PPT skills in my daily work? No. But throughout my career, those skills will be very helpful, and this is why I think this place is a great place to start and get some working experience after/during college.
I am personally an international student while I worked there, and I think this place is especially great for international students as its hard for international students to get their first US working experience. A very friendly employer for OPT and CPT students. Robert has been extremely supportive in providing the documents I need during my H1b application/RFE process After I finished this internship. If you know what an H1B RFE is, you will understand the relief and mental support I received from Robert’s help.
Great leadership and a great place to volunteer.
I worked for classwish as summer intern in 2016. It is a great organization that helps children. I gained great experience from here working skills and networking! It is a diverse working environment so that I met lots of friends from all over the world. Everyone is so nice and helpful that I can always keep learning from them. If I could restart my summer, I would definitely join classwish again without hesitation! Thank y'all! I hope I can see y'all later!
I worked for Classwish over the summer in 2014 as an intern for the cause marketing branch. From the interview process to various projects that were worked on throughout this three month period, Robert is very attentive to matching his interns with the sort of work they want to be doing for the organization. His advice and constructive criticism is helpful for the work done within the organization as well as formulating skills that are integral to excel as a young professional (both within the non-profit and corporate sectors). Although this is not a large-scale non profit, its unique structure overshadows the inefficient organizations which typically utilize a sort of door-to-door approach in funding and marketing (which I have worked for in the past). Due to Robert's experience, one-on-one guidance, and connections as the backbone of the organization, Classwish is assured a bright future. Highly recommend the experience.
I interned here for three months during the fall of 2014. I did not know what to expect so I was happy to find out that ClassWish was a good place to intern.
My tasks were mostly interesting, and every time I showed some extra initiative, I got more responsibility.
The co-founder was always around, and there were never any problems with asking him for help or extra guidance. He has been in the "game" for a long time, and has a lot of knowledge and experience.
The office is midtown Manhattan, so it´s really easy getting there.
It´s unpaid, but that´s to be expected. You are helping a lot of kids so that really makes up for it.
I interned at ClassWish from last September to November, and worked on a wide variety of things, including research, strategy, presentations, and the like. It was a complete dream and a great experience. Everyone was so pleasant and helpful. I felt welcomed, not like the "new kid on the block." There are interns there from all over the world with many different ethnic and cultural backgrounds, and that diversity makes it an even more exciting place to work.
It feels great getting up every day knowing that I’m in some way helping to supply less fortunate kids with what they need for school, which is what ClassWish is all about. Something that I really dug was that you were able take on as much responsibility as you could handle, which is AWESOME for us high-energy types. That makes it a great opportunity to learn a lot.
I learned so many new things. The number of useful skills that I gained at ClassWish was amazing and they're extremely marketable, which I have not encountered to this degree interning elsewhere. So if you're looking to use skills that you already have and gain some new ones, I highly recommend ClassWish.
The cream on top though, is a boss who wants to make sure that everyone has a great experience and learns a lot. Robert Tolmach (who was my boss), was one of the most approachable people that I have had the pleasure of working with. No matter how busy this guy got (and trust me, he was always very busy) he always took the time out to answer any questions or concerns that anyone had, and to explain what was going on. It was like a private tutorial from someone with lots of very impressive professional experience (check out his Linkedin page).
At the end of the day, this is without a doubt the kind of environment that I had hoped to find for an internship and that I hope to find again when I finish school.
I did an internship with Classwish for three month before I found a full time job in another company where I used a lot of skills I learned from CW.
If you want to intern at CW, you should show your passion to work. You would take on as much responsibility as you desire to. I am Accounting major. At CW I did much more than just accounting work. It was the place where I got to learn Quckbooks, exercising bank reconciliation. It is the place I learned v-look up and pivot table. Robert, co-founder of CW, had me sit beside him learning how to communicate with people in a business manner. He also kindly pointed out my grammatical mistakes in the email. I really appreciated that experience.
I had the good fortune of discovering ClassWish in 2011. It not only met my expectations, but exceeded them! It is a wonderful organization committed to a great cause--- getting schools the resources they need to provide students with the top-notch education they deserve, and in the process eliminating the problem of teachers dipping into their own pockets. The CEO spearheaded the organization and was the best possible person to work for! He is intelligent, easy to talk to, and everyday emanated a rich passion for his company that was inspiring to be around. He loves to hear new ideas and truly created an open forum for us all to speak our opinions and brainstorm new strategies. Not only did I feel like I was really contributing, but also that my work was appreciated. I know firsthand that not all companies treat interns with respect and show appreciation for their work, and this one definitely does! Surely a great experience working with a great organization, and I know it will only continue to do great things for students everywhere.
I came at Classwish for an internship during the summer.I am a french student, studying business in Paris. I loved this place because of the concept: helping school finding furniture with a very modern way and very innovative marketing strategy. During my internship I learnt a lot and felt very involved. I met a lot of very motivated students and a passionate director who shared a lot with us. We were really free to share our ideas and we get really fast responsabilities. I hope I could come back one day.
I was an intern for this horrible place in the fall of 2011. Do yourself a favour and do never waist your time and skills working for this unorganized person. It is a one-man show that has more resemblance to a dictatorship than to a work space. One man is constantly abusing several interns. For whatever reason an old post that I have seen on this space before, is now removed. Did Robert Tolmach perhaps do that? On a google search it shows the beginning of a critical comment: "I had a terrible experience there. The guy who runs it is completely disorganized and had a bunch of volunteers working on other charities, not just Classwish which is what we'd signed up for. Also, they run several sweepstakes and never pay out..."
My review of Classwish.org will contain nothing but compliments because that is all I have to give; when I met Robert Tolmach and Renee Hooker at a New School Career Fair they did an amazing job of getting me excited about Classwish and the great work it does helping teachers pay for school supplies they do not receive the funding for, educate students about careers and their different responsibilities and qualifications, and education and mentor programs to prepare them for the difficult career world, so that they do not feel so intimidated and unprepared. The atmosphere is productive and professional but not at all stressful or overly demanding, and no suit-and-tie required for daily development and administration work! The staff has a very good understanding of the demanding lives of students from their schools, finances, etcetera and only asks for a positive attitude, passion about the program, and commitment to the goals set for realizing this unique and inspiring program. The location is convenient, the Pennsylvania Hotel on 7th avenue and 32nd street, and the work environment is spacious and comfortable, and includes refrigeration and kitchen. While constantly working towards growing the nonprofit to have the maximum impact on all students, particularly underprivileged schools and at-risk youth, my supervisor, Robert, is very friendly, specific about what he expects as far as duties, and though very professional is always ready to laugh, share anecdotes or interesting information and personal knowledge, and welcomes people of many backgrounds (our office is very international) to working towards this amazing project, which I look forward to continuing to work with and watching grow. I am happy to give a great Classwish.org review!
I am currently doing an internship at ClassWish and the experience has been amazing. This is an organization with innovative projects, and it is certainly the place for anyone who wants to help increase opportunities for k-12 students to have better equipped classrooms. Our team is great to work with, and there is always a place for new ideas.
I am currently an intern at ClassWish, and have had such a rewarding experience so far. Perhaps what I've treasured most is the opportunity to truly make an impact. I feel as though I have made a difference, and I know that I'm providing a valuable contribution to a deserving cause. I really enjoy working with the passionate people there as well. The team, though still growing, is committed to the organization's success. It's so great to be a part of it all.
I am just finishing up an internship with ClassWish and loved it. It’s got a great philosophy behind it and a very enthusiastic founder and CEO. The sky is really the limit here as we are still starting up many new projects. I’m finishing my Executive MBA this year back home in Australia at Griffith University and will continue to support and work for ClassWish from “down under”. I worked on the Decals project, so check out our site at classwish-decal.org.
