Causes: Agricultural Programs, Food
Mission: City fruit promotes the cultivation of urban fruit in order to nourish people, build community and protect the climate. We help tree owners grow healthy fruit, provide assistance in harvesting and preserving fruit, promote the sharing of extra fruit, and work to protect urban fruit trees.
Programs: Harvest, using/sharing fruit: city fruit harvested 55,000 pounds of fruit, distributing the 30,000 pounds to food banks and meal programs across the city, as well as supporting two community supported agriculture programs.
orchard stewardship: city fruit actively stewarded trees on public property across 16 public orchards using trained orchard stewards. The organization hosted 38 work parties and gathered 1,825 hours of volunteer time to steward public trees throughout seattle, including 550 hours dedicated to pruning the public fruit trees.
education: city fruit provided 22 workshops and classes during 2016 reaching over 300 neighbors.
