Mission: We provide children with quality legal advocacy focusing on domestic violence issues, high-conflict custody cases, and the rights of children in public education. Our vision is to increase children’s potential to become emotionally healthy adults through fostering their sense of hope and empowerment.
Target demographics: To protect the best interests of children.
Direct beneficiaries per year: CLC’s staff and volunteer attorneys served 257 children in 2018, and expect to serve over 300 by the end of 2019.
Geographic areas served: The Children’s Law Center accepts judicial appointments to serve as Guardians ad Litem in high conflict custody cases and Chapter 50B civil domestic violence cases, as well as in public education.
Programs: CLC GALs provide judges with the necessary information to reach custody and visitation decisions that are in the best interests of the child. Where indicated, the CLC recommends counseling for, batterers, adult victims of domestic violence, substance abuse, and mental health issues. The CLC recommends age-appropriate counseling for all children exposed to family violence to equip them with the skills necessary to resolve conflicts peacefully.
