I spent 19 years practicing emergency medicine in Chesapeake. I always knew, no matter what my disavantaged patients needed, that I could refer them to the clinic and they would be cared for. My surety was reinforced by my 25 years volunteering there as a provider, legislative advocate, fundraiser, Professional Services Committee Chair, and Board Member.

The clinic is full of professionals that have the same mission, to provide medical and dental care for low-income, uninsured individuals in our community. Our volunteers make this happen, sure we hear the down frustration of the wait time often, but once the patient understands that the Dr. or Nurse or Dentist has worked all day in there practice and then comes hear to provide compassionate care to them, they usually walk out with a better understanding, and you hear them explaning to the next person on their next visit. THe clinic needs volunteers, and most of all donations to continue to provide the care they do for our patients. Every $1 helps. Please donate.

I have been a volunteer physician at Chesapeake Care since 1992 and a Board Member since 1999. I have practiced emergency medicine in the community for 20 years and am intimately familiar with thousands of patients who would not be healthy or productive today if it were not for this clinic and its many volunteers.

As an Emergency Physician in the closest ER near Chesapeake Care I am greatly indebted to the service that Chesapeake Care provides to our community. Our ER would be overwhelmed with patients who, if not for Chespeake Care, would have no other medical care to turn to. Cheseapeake Care provides ongoing preventive and ongoing care to thousands of patients in the city of Chesapeake and is invaluable to our city. This is a facility that should be replicated in every city in the United States!

I am a volunteer medical professional and board member. This clinic serves as a safety net for all the low income, uninsured citizens of Chesapeake and provides dental care to the region. With tremendous community volunteer support, we are able to stretch every dollar to over $9 of medical care. Our patients receive excellent, multispecialty care which transforms their lives. I am proud to live in a community that truly cares for its own.

I volunteer at the clinic usually 2-3 days a week. It is an awesome place to build job skills while helping serve the community at the same time.

I volunteer approximately once a week. The stories the new patients share with us are heart wrenching and then heart warming because we care and are providing much needed dental and medical help for these individuals. They are so appreciative, you know we are doing a great job in meeting the needs of those who are without medical coverage. They have hope, ambition, kindness, and vow that when they can they will repay in kind for the services they receive.

Chesapeake Care does an outstanding job of providing medical and dental care for those in need and without insurance. This is especially important in this economy where so many folks have lost homes and jobs and are in need for the first time in their lives. As a volunteer in the Eligibility Clinic, I've had the opportunity to meet those coming for help for the first time, as well as those who are renewing their eligibility. I've heard many stories of unexpected illness, tragedy, job loss, homelessness, financial losses and loss of insurance from people who also tell me how much they appreciate the opportunity to obtain medical and/or dental assistance via Chesapeake Care. This is one less worry and one less stress in their lives. For my part, I've found the staff to be totally professional in dealing with their clients, as well as compassionate and caring. Just wanted to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU!

Dr. Montero and Chesapeake Care have been providing medical, dental and specialty care for the uninsured since 1992. With out them members of my family would not have been able to continue to work and be productive members of the community. Thank you Chesapeake Care. You make a difference.

I volunteer 2 days a week providing medical care to the working poor and to those without income. I am a Registered Nurse and feel that I can give back to this community by helping those in need --This Clinic provides 10 dollars of care for every one dollar donated due to all of the mulitple volunteers that provide help---from the front desk to maintenance. This is just a wonderful place to help others.

Chesapeake Care is a free clinic that provides unmatchhed health care to low-income, uninsured residents in Chesapeake, VA. In addition to free health care, the clinic also provides free dental care to the entire Hampton Roads area.

I have been a board member and volunteer at the clinic for about three years. In that short time, I have been touched and moved by the services the clinic provides to people who are in need of quality health and dental care. When you sit across the desk from someone who cannot afford health care, and know that the clinic may provide them life-saving services, you quickly become even more willing to volunteer.

For example, recently, I found out about several women who could not afford health care. They learned about the clinic and came for services. As it turned out each of these women had cancer and had it not been for the clinic, each of them probably would not be alive today.
This is just three examples of patients' stories that I see and hear about daily. Chesapeake Care is a place of hope and healing and sometimes the last resort for much needed care.
