Programs: Graduate instruction - the university is an international institution for post-graduate study and research offering master's and doctoral degree programs. The university offers non-degree programs of study as well. The university currently offers 36 master's degree programs and 13 doctoral programs in 14 departments and 1 school. There are one-year and two-year master's degree programs offered in the following fields: business analytics, comparative history, cultural heritage studies, economics, environmental sciences and policy, finance, gender studies, global economic relations, human rights, international relations, it management, legal studies (comparative constitutional law, human rights, and international business law), mathematics and its applications, medieval studies, nationalism studies, philosophy, political science, public policy, and sociology and social anthropology. open society archives -the vera and donald blinken open society archives (osa) at central european university is a complex archival institution. Osa is both a repository of important collections, primarily related to the history of the cold war and grave international human rights violations, and a laboratory of archival experiments on new ways of assessing, contextualizing, presenting, and making use of archival documents. Osa provides research fellowships to scholars who are encouraged to digitize, tag, comment, and make publicly available the documents they find in our holdings. It develops tools to help all those interested in our collections to digitize the documents, to organize, tag, and-if they wish-share them; to build virtual collections, and import primary documents from other sources. Osa, its holdings, and the research based on our collections, are the basis of an expanding teaching program. Osa receives students from the ceu and institutions around the globe, who come here to study the role and use of archival evidence, the changing functions of the archives, how to build trust in new types of archival institutions, and the special methodological problems of studying the sources of the fantasies on which the cold war was constructed. The professional archival and research work is integrated with complex public programs, and galeria centralis serves as the focal point of exhibitions, performances, installations, film screenings, lectures, and seminars. Osa archivum's rapidly-growing audiovisual collection comprises both archival holdings and material from its film library: regional propaganda; historical, feature and documentary films; regional tv news programs; historical home movies; and amateur footage-from the interwar period up to the present.
research centers - through its 20 research centers, ceu promotes an environment where high-quality research can take place, where readiness for intellectual risk-taking and for radical rethinking of foundations is strongly encouraged, and where values of open society, democracy and critical, reflective thinking are cultivated. Ceu research centers complement research and teaching activities in ceu departments, enhancing interdisciplinary connections among different academic areas and interfacing academic and policy-relevant activities. The centers support ceu's mission by raising the university's international visibility and deepening its regional embeddedness. Building international partnerships with research institutes, corporations, ngos and governmental agencies, ceu research centers operate large-scale research projects, organize outstanding public events, workshops and conferences, as well as offer fellowships in their respective research areas. ceu is committed to making tangible contributions to society. It does so by sharing its knowledge and by collaborating with diverse partners in academia and across the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. Collaboration projects include: direct faculty support to organizations requiring expert assistance (economic co-operation and development, u. N. Environmental programme, u. N. High commission on refugees), partnerships within the region and worldwide (law society of ireland, hungary's national innovation office, the american chamber of commerce in hungary, the u. S. Embassy and the hungarian venture capital association, sabanci university turkey). Ceu also attracts internationally distinguished speakers to budapest, hosting more than 500 events a year where participants discuss solutions to challenges as diverse as stabilizing the euro zone, ending impunity for perpetrators of war crimes, parsing moral questions of life extension, and convincing world leaders to pursue the most far-reaching climate change policies (51 which were open to the public in the past academic year).
