Programs: Health careers: ccahec partnered with arapahoe-douglas workforce center, denver workforce solutions, denver opportunity youth initiative, adams county workforce, and american job center serving jefferson, clear creek, and gilpin counties by providing the health careers apprenticeship program (hcpa) at the university of colorado anschutz medical campus. Hcpa consisted of 3 weeks of hands-on programming for 11 students. 16-24 years old, from traditionally underserved cirumstances, interested in pursuing a career in health. The goal of the program is to give future health workers 21st century skills and certifications as a means to make them competitive applicants in the workforce and in post-secondary eduction. Ccahec also partnered with wheat ridge high school to offer the hcpa program as a component of their "career explore" program to 12 of their disengaged junior and senior students. This program was held at st. Anthonys hospital in lakewood for 3 weeks. Monday through thursday,with students attending regular class at wheat ridge high school on fridays. All 12 of the student completed the program and have graduated or are back on track to graduate on time. One of the prime functions of the university of colorado contract with ccahec is to support health science students doing clinical rotations off-campus. From july, 2016 to june, 2017 158 seperate rotations were conducted throughout ccahec's region at sites such as commnunity health centers, denver health systems, and community practice sites. Cu shcool of medicine (som), family medicine, and physician assistant departments, schools of nursing, dental medicine, physcial therapy, and pharmacy were aided as well as health professions, sutdents from rocky vista universtiy and red rocks community college. These students were provided local housing at host homes near rotation sites. Ccahec assisted medical students and nursing students in identifying community service learning projects while on their rural rotations. Projects included working with the national western stock show, the spring rescue mission, the longmont senior center, the douglas resource fair, marijuanca research, metro caring food pantry in denver, catholic charities, and health brochure development. Ccahec served as a clinical preceptor for platte college school of nursing and cu college of nursing (14 students) the students promoted rich cookbook at iora clinic in glendale, co and the douglas county resource fair. The addtion of health education brochures to the online cookbook site has increaed by 4. Zika virus, marijuana information for parents, human papilloma virus (hpv) and copd/asthma. The possibility of the develop0ment of a marijuana information toolkit will be investigated when the marijuana monies are available again in october, 2017. Ccahec staff and professional students also participate in a variety of career and health fairs around the region to engage youth and parents in health career discussions. Over 20,000 students were reached this year at denver public, douglas, jeffco, colorado springs, and adams counties' school career fairs
education: the online nurse refresher program has seen 55rn and 20lpn refresher students enroll in fy 2017. A new registration system is being developed using salesforce. The lpn course will be revised this year to coincide with the new addition of the text book. recognition: state-wide nightingale luminary awards, a partnership withthe colorado nurses association, is a long standing program honoring exemplary registered nurses. This year makred the 25th anniversary of the event. There were 161 nominations this year for 24 awards. The celebratory banquet was attended by over 600 family members and friends.
