Mission:
Hospice Foundation believes the final act of living well is dying peacefully, with comfort and dignity, and surrounded by loved ones. We raise funds and distribute grants to local organizations dedicated to care at the end of life. We inform people in the community and policy makers about end-of-life issues and the need for change so that services are available to all.
Programs: Hospice Foundation is a non-profit, community-based, public philanthropy that raises and manages funds to give grants. Grants are awarded exclusively in Monterey and San Benito counties, in the Central Coast region of California, to support non-profit hospice programs and other services, such as bereavement or caregiving, that are associated with care and caring at the end of life. Hospice Foundation grants, which are distributed annually, are funded through the generosity of individuals and businesses with a passion for our mission. Direct gifts, special events, bequests and other planned gifts, grants, and investment activities contribute to the funds we raise each year. Since 1997, the Foundation has given more than $16.4 million to support hospice and other end-of-life care for children and adults, bereavement support programs, and emotional and practical support services for families in the region who are coping with life-threatening illness. We are particularly interested in funding initiatives as solutions to a clearly defined community need. For instance, Hospice Foundation has helped three local hospitals start up palliative care programs and train staff, and one other to start up hospice services in a rural region of Monterey County where none existed before.
