Mission: Cal farley's mission is to provide professional programs and services in a christ-centered atmosphere to strengthen families and support the overall development of children.
Programs: Boys ranch: cal farley's, a 501(c)3 organization with a history spanning more than 75 years, is one of the largest privately funded child and family service organizations in the united states. We provide residential and community-based services at no cost to the families we serve, thanks to the continued generosity of our supporters. Cal farley's flagship campus at boys ranch, texas, provides a safe, therapeutic residential environment for about 300 children each year (320 children in fy 2014). Here, children ages 5 to 18 from across the united states (25 states in fy 2014) receive personal, professional care aimed at meeting the six areas of need we believe everyone must satisfy to achieve their god-given potential: safety, belonging, achievement, power, purpose, and adventure. Most will stay about two years, though some require a longer time with us. After high school graduation or completing their plans of service, cal farley's offers former residents access to an extensive network of alumni support services that includes transitional living and academic scholarship programs. (some 80 scholarships were awarded in fy 2014. )
genie farley harriman center for women & children: at our genie farley harriman center for women & children, single mothers and their young children (102 individuals in fy 2014) enjoy a safe living environment while they learn to provide for themselves everyday needs such as housing and utilities, employment and education. Our trained staff empowers the mothers to enhance their parenting and money-management skills, equips them with valuable vocational tools, and encourages them to set aside at least 30 percent of their income for their eventual transition to independent living. While many families' stay is less than one year, some (about 11 percent) have more extensive needs, requiring them to be with us two years or longer.
alumni and program support services: alumni support services is an example of cal farley's lifetime commitment to the children we serve in residence. These services provide a source of comfort, encouragement, and a sense of family support to alumni. When a resident makes the transition from campus life to becoming functioning members of their communities, alumni support is there to help them. Alumni support provided case management services to 57 alumni throughout the year; 53 alumni were provided with housing or housing assistance; and 80 alumni were recipients of post-secondary education scholarships from cal farley's during fy 2014. Program support includes cal farley's call center, which fielded over 3,000 calls resulting in information about cal farley's programs as well as referrals to other reputable agencies and resources that may be better equipped to meet the needs of the child and family.
community-based services: cal farley's community-based services help children and families (about 900 families in fy 2014) right where they live. In some cases, our work is able to prevent the need for an in-residence solution but, when placement at boys ranch is necessary, these community offices serve as a bridge between children in residence at boys ranch and their families. Since the ultimate goal for most residents is reunification with their families, our caseworkers help families improve the home environment to better facilitate the day when child and family can reunite.
