Our family loves to visit Cahokia mounds! The museum, the exhibits, and the movie are all interesting and informative. The grounds are well kept, too. Sadly this last year the state closed the museum certain days due to funding shortages.

Thankfully, there is a very active volunteer group that helps schedule events, programs, and answer questions for visitors when they are open. Frequent celebrations of cultural heritage such as solstice programs at Woodhenge, and hands-on activities, are held throughout the year, catering to both children and adults. Our family learned about historical games and weapons used during the Mississippian era. We have purchased items created by native American artists and vendors at the yearly market event, and even watched and joined a dance as part of Native American ceremonies held at the site.

The museum and grounds themselves are great, but it's the volunteers that help visitors understand the significance of the Cahokia Mounds site, and give it historical perspective. Volunteers and their activities brought history to life for my children. They answer questions, offer insights, and provide hands-on activities that make learning fun and demonstrate how culture and history are real and play a part in who we are today as a modern society. You know what they say, those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

The volunteers at Cahokia Mounds bring history to life. They provide perspective, and instill a desire to learn more about the history and culture of the people of Cahokia Mounds. Events put on by volunteers keep things fresh, even after many visits over the years. Our visits to Cahokia Mounds would not have been as meaningful or memorable without the dedicated contributions of their volunteers.

Cahokia Mounds has always been a place I’ve enjoyed no matter how many times I go. The exhibits in the museum are informational, some are interactive and overall very interesting. Outside the museum, there is a beautiful nature trail that takes you around to the mounds, wood henge and the land the pre-Columbian Native Americans lived on. I would definitely recommend visiting this site with people of all ages for a fun educational experience for you and your party.

I started as a volunteer while I was in college and loved every minute of it. They do such amazing things for the community. They help people learn about the prehistoric peoples who lived here by helping to fund so many programs.

Cahokia Mounds Museum Society helps to educate the public about the Native Americans who once lived at this amazing UNESCO World Heritage Site. Children can learn ancient games and crafts thanks to the work of CMMS and adults can hear archaeologists discuss Cahokia Mounds and other Mississippian sites in the country.

I LOVE Cahokia Mounds. It is such a special place. I love hiking here and feeling close to nature. It is a true escape from the city. The Interpretive center is amazing as well, and they’re updating exhibits as we speak! Lots of hard work and love is put into keeping this place going and it shows!

What a marvelous facility. We have been here many times with our children and occasionally with their school field trips. Is a quick and easy way to learn about a fascinating local culture. It has a wonderful mix of family friendly archaeological exhibits with hands-on experiences and some really good informational display.

The Cahokia Mounds is an amazing place! Everything you could want in an historic site is right here - the rich culture of the Native American people, the fascinating archeology unearthed, and the beautiful remaining mounds and trails for discovery. The Interpretive Center helps a visitor understand the significance of this World Heritage site, and kind docents regale stories of the distant past and of the site! When friends come to visit St Louis, I always bring them to this special place!

CMMS is a great organization that helps promote Cahokia Mounds. They do a wonderful job of helping Cahokia Mounds World Heritage Site by paying for children and adult programming. They help buy land that helps preserve more of this ancient site.
