**UPDATE: In response to the rescue’s response: I opted to not continue my volunteer work with the rescue due to the director’s immature and hostile attitude. She might state “If a foster home has and continues to create a detrimental or hostile environment to our animals, other foster homes, veterinary partners, adopters, and overall program, they are removed.” The director really creates this hostile environment from the top down. It’s pretty embedded in the rescue’s culture. Detrimental?? Are you joking? I have fostered over 100s of dogs and cats, and there was never a concern of any detriment to anyone 2 or 4 legged. Only became a concern when I offered to foster with another rescue. This is clearly taking the defensive when what I have to say holds some truth to it.
“Amy’s negligence and violations involving our foster program have already been communicated directly with her.” But I was at vets at all hours for animals. Saved some from death due diseases like parvo, broken bones, animal in distress due of pregnancy does that sound like negligence? No, it sounds like rising to the occasion at any or all times. I missed work for this rescue as a volunteer not an employee. I often was there on my own without anyone from the rescue.
I have done everything the rescue asked me which led to this. I had a prior commitment to foster with another rescue and the director asked me to take back a foster cat that was being returned. The rule in reference is fostering with multiple rescues at the same time and it was very abundantly clear that I had a prior commitment and the director did not recognize it and still asked me to take the foster back. That is not negligence. I work in commercial insurance for the past 14 years so I understand negligence and this is not. This is a misuse of the word by someone whose response to me trying to cover both commitments is to toss aside a very good volunteer.
This rescue does great work but not kind to the people that volunteer. This is heartbreaking after so many years of service and the response just further shows is very unkind nature. **
I volunteered as a foster for this rescue for 6 years and handled a wide variety of medical urgent cases and basically would do anything for the rescue, putting the well being of the rescue and fosters ahead of myself. I was very loyal. So after needing a break and volunteered with another rescue the director of the rescue discarded me like I did not matter and handled the situation in a very childish way including blocking me on Facebook.
Most rescues want to be supported by the public this one blocks the public. Full disclosure: there was a misunderstanding on taking a foster back when I had a previous foster commitment. Director stated she did not know had a prior commitment which was evident all over social media but so quick to block me. Seems a bit ironic.
I will just say while they do a great job rescuing animals in need and getting them in a home the management team will trample over volunteers to do whatever is needed and not very volunteer friendly. They treat volunteers like employees. There are many other rescues out there that treat their volunteers with respect, focused on helping the animals and do not have to resort to the caddy tactics. I was not going to say anything but blocking me on the public Facebook page is such a childish new low that I have not seen a rescue do that I think the public needs to know how the rescue treats long time volunteers.
