Mission: Boomtown Cafe began in 1995 as a non-profit restaurant that served affordable and nutritious food to Seattle?s homeless and low-income residents and workers. What sets Boomtown apart from other feeding programs is that Boomtown functions like a business. We are the only non-profit restaurant in the State of Washington where people can use their food stamp cards for hot food or work to pay for a portion of their meals. We believe in the opportunity for people to contribute to society and the Café provides the opportunity for an important value exchange to take place. The Café creates an atmosphere that is welcoming to diners of diverse incomes and lifestyles and provides the dignity of a restaurant meal at a very low cost. Since our closure, Boomtown has received an overwhelming outpouring of community support. In just one week, Seattle citizens came forward with donations totaling nearly $32,000 to get Boomtown up and running again. Clearly, the Seattle community knows that Boomtown is an invaluable community asset that we can?t afford to lose. Building on the momentum of these generous gifts, we are mobilizing an effort to reopen the café with vim, vigor and the tenacity. It will take many hands to sustain this wonderful community asset and we are calling on our generous supporters to help us re-open. DONATE TODAY and help us continue to remind people that everyone has VALUE, we can all make a positive CONTRIBUTION and we should all be given the opportunity to live a life of DIGNITY
