Our children, Maurice (11) usually goes to another summer camp, but it wasn't operating this summer. It would have been Our 5-year old daughter, Aaniya's first summer camp experience, as our plan was to send her there.
I researched other camps, being a licensed clinical social worker and more importantly, one of those annoying, really picky and particular moms and I remembered hearing about BBTM for years and how great it is. I decided this was where I wanted our children to attend. It was amazing beyond this picky, particular mom's expectations.
BBTM focuses on education during the summer, while other programs just let's kids play and have fun, as their brains become stagnant and unmotivated, less prepared for a return to school in the fall. The thing is, BBTM has a curriculum that makes learning fun and piques the children's interests. The end of the summer performance they put on revealed all that could be accomplished in 6 weeks, with a professional, knowledgeable, dedicated staff. When I saw my son go to the microphone and recite pieces of history without prompts and play the drums and a ukulele, I knew without a doubt, that this program is top-notch special and I will be enrolling both of our children for the fall.
With all that has already been stated, there remains one last thing I need to address; our son can be a challenge, in that he has very black and white thinking and this creates a problem in perception and feelings of disrespect for him. In turn, his behavior is to verbally "defend" himself with his peers. It's really just "kids being kids," but BBTM has a strict code of conduct that all the children, staff and parents must adhere to in order to be a part of the program. Our son violated it twice and the way they responded was reasonable, thoughtful, respectful and loving, realizing that the purpose of corrective action is to hold a child responsible, build them up, so that the likelihood of that repeated behavior diminishes. They don't give up, believing no child should be "tossed aside" or "thrown away."
I have two adult children, who also attended summer programs throughout their lives and BBTM surpasses them all. It is without hesitation or reservation, this annoying, picky, particular mom highly recommends this program!
