Mission: Bahia Street breaks cycles of poverty, inequality and violence by providing high quality educational opportunities to economically-impoverished girls and young women in Salvador, Brazil. The program was developed by African-Brazilian residents of shantytowns in Salvador, Brazil to provide a solution to what they believe to be their most pressing problems.Bahia Street gives some of our world's most disadvantaged people-- poor Afro-Brazilian girls-- access to education and programs that support them through university. It augments a public school system that leaves students illiterate with a high quality educational program on par with the best private schools in Salvador. Bahia Street also addresses the need for non-Brazilians to know more about international development, poverty, race, and effective solutions to global problems.
Donor & Volunteer Advisory
This organization's nonprofit status may have been revoked or it may have merged with another

I became aware of Bahia Street through its numerous educational outreach activities offered each year in the Puget Sound area. After attending several such events and being impressed with what I saw and heard, my husband and I began donating small amounts in support of Bahia Street's mission. Several years ago, we participated in one of the educational trips of perspective offered by Bahia Street each year. The trips are designed to provide an inside look at the activities of Bahia Street in Salvador, Brazil and answer any questions about how donated funds are being used. The trip was one of those once-in-a-lifetime events that only enhanced and confirmed my appreciation for the people involved in Bahia Street and the incredible work they do to change the lives of young girls in this part of the world.
