Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Autism, Disabilities, Health

Mission: At the Autism Research Institute, we are grounded in our core mission, established in the 1960s, to serve individuals with autism and their caregivers who are committed to understanding, recognition, service, and empowerment; scientists who are actively seeking answers to autism's complex questions; and clinicians who are working in this arena to best care for those with autism. Our partnerships in this effort to support the autism community continue to include autistic people, families, clinicians, and autism researchers around the globe — we fund autism research efforts in multiple countries and work with numerous national and international autism parent support groups to share the latest knowledge about co-occurring conditions and autism. We put science first. We fund research and facilitate the transfer of evidence-based information. We are focused on generating and sharing autism findings that are peer-reviewed. We fund studies aimed toward quality output in respected journals.

My brother, now deceased, had severe autism. Unfortunately, he was born in the 1950s, when nothing was understood and very few resources were available. I am grateful for this wonderful organization which brings information and resources to families, so that they can have the answers, support, and hope that my family could not.

Successive governments here in the UK have barely paid lip service to those who deal with children, adults and families who need help with Additional Support Needs.
Indeed, throughout the UK, the outdated and offensive “ Special Needs” is still widely used.
It is a continuing disgrace that adults both in and outwith education are forced to look outside this country for simple, ( sometimes not so simple ) good, pertinent advice from knowledgeable experts in the field.
ARI is one such that I have used over a number of years now which remains consistently superb.
Always very well curated and presented, ordinary people can find comfort in furthering their knowledge and understanding in widely varying topics.
Moreover, the chat and Q and A aspects of the site give a sense of belonging and can engender a sense of strength for parents and educators.
Always worth the time invested.
More power to all who work with and support ARI.

I recently found out that I am on the autism spectrum. I have been watching videos that ARI has, as well as written material. In addition, I have started attending the webinars they produce. I have been impressed with all of the information that they have gathered. I am also impressed with the professionalism of every interaction I have had related to the information I am learning. I believe they deserve six stars, but since that option is not available, five stars will have to do.

I have followed and participated in ARI's work for decades. It remains scientifically solid and unflinching in the face of what is culturally accepted as standard, yet inadequate, treatment. This is relevant because the rising tide of enduring literature characterizing autism is pointing to the involvement of a combination of genetic, mitochondrial, metabolic and immune issues. These are little known in the medical community at large. Patients deserve to know about this information. ARI is an invaluable vehicle to disseminate such information and to help it be translated, when possible, into beneficial treatments.

I am incredibly impressed with the work being done at the Autism Research Institute. Their commitment to advancing the understanding of autism through rigorous research, compassionate outreach, and education is truly commendable.

The institute provides many resources for families, caregivers, and professionals, making complex information accessible and actionable. Their dedication to evidence-based practices ensures that the community benefits from the latest findings, fostering a more informed and supportive environment for individuals with autism.

Moreover, the staff is not only knowledgeable but also deeply empathetic. They create a welcoming atmosphere where questions are encouraged and every voice is heard. The various free programs and initiatives they offer demonstrate a genuine desire to improve the quality of life for those with autism.

Overall, the Autism Research Institute is a beacon of hope and progress in the autism community. Their holistic approach to research and education makes a real difference, and I wholeheartedly recommend their work to anyone seeking reliable information and support.

I hope that others will join in supporting and donating to ARI.
