Mission: The mission of Ashley''s Place (Sumner Child Advocacy Center) is to ensure that a cooperative, multi-disciplinary team delivers comprehensive services to child physical and sexual abuse victims and their families in a child-focused, neutral-base facility. By providing coordinated services through cooperation among the various disciplines, the center will ensure that each child will be protected from further victimization.
Programs:
Individual victim therapy and family member support group. Ashley's Place provides hundreds of individual child therapy sessions each year. Children eligible for therapy through Ashley's Place receive specific trauma focused therapy services. Support groups are held once a month for both child victims and non-offending family members with a total of 24 groups a year. Intervention at the onset of an abuse disclosure is crucial for children and families. The therapy provided is focused on reducing the emotional impact of the initial disclosure; promoting healing self awareness and self growth; and changing individual behavior and family relationships to reduce or eliminate the risk of future abuse. This much needed therapy is crucial for children in becoming mentally and emotionally healthy adolescents and adults. The family support groups provide encouragement in dealing with child sexual abuse and the family's role in a healthy recovery.
