I was 5 months pregnant and in rehab when I came in contact with Apple Core. I went through a series of nutritional classes that changed my eating for the better, 40years old and the healthiest pregnancy you can imagine! I was made team captain at Grace Street Garden, boosting confidence and giving me great coping skills as I navigated new motherhood and early sobriety. Apple Core project found some great baby gear for me that I couldn’t otherwise afford. After successfully graduating from rehab, Apple Core Project came through once again with a job at the Farmers Market. I worked there every Saturday for a year, building confidence and community and supplementing my income. I am still actively involved with Apple Core Project, encouraging new women in the rehab to come out to Grace Street Garden. Watching the confidence getting involved in the garden community builds is inspiring. My son is growing up learning to garden, eat healthy, and help others.
The feeling you get when you feel the urgency to take a stand and do what's right and you're glad you did and then you see that it set forth a change in events for the better.... Thats Apple Core. Doing the right thing because its the right thing to do no matter what that is Apple Core. That we as a group will go wherever there is a need. All people matter. We are all Apple Core. we make a difference because we try.
