APLA Health & Wellness

Programs: Apla health & wellness, with two stand-alone clinics and a mobile dental van, provides dental services to low-income individuals, including those living with hiv/aids. Apla health & wellness has made the commitment to provide dental services to all hiv-infected patients regardless of their ability to pay. Nearly half of the clients are provided basic dental care free of charge. Apla health & wellness has eliminated two of the primary reasons for dental neglect: high cost of treatment and accessibility to care. During the year, apla health & wellness treated 2,138 unduplicated clients and provided 18,965 dental procedures during 8,153 visits.

the hiv counseling and testing program provides free confidential hiv testing to anyone who requests one. Services are provided 6 days a week and are available in spanish as well as english. Services are provided by certified hiv counselors. Additionally, the program provides free confidential std screening and treatment. Treatment is provided by a medical doctor or a nurse practitioner. The program provided 1,801 hiv tests and 1,132 std tests this year.

on november 1, 2013, apla health & wellness received a federal 330 grant to become a federally qualified health center. The fqhc, which began operations on march 1, 2014, offers low and no-cost services to low-income individuals at three locations. The gleicher / chen health center in south los angeles offers primary care, dental and behavioral health services six days a week in its five exam rooms, four dental operatories and three counseling suites. In addition, this facility provides medical insurance enrollment assistance, hiv care, and prep counseling. The wilshire dental clinic offers comprehensive dental services five days a week in its eight dental operatories. And the geffen center mental health services offers behavioral health counseling.

apla health and wellness provides a number of other smaller programs to clients, actively outreaching to the community at-risk for contracting hiv and aids with a variety of prevention focused interventions.
