Programs: Pet adoptions: nearly 2,600 dogs, cats and other small pets were placed into new homes through our pet adoption center services in 2010. We provide food, housing, medical and spay/neuter services, parasite control, microchips, health and behavioral assessments as a part of the overall benefit each pet receives. Approximately 250 dogs and cats are maintained in our adoption center each day and those pets are cared for by staff until placed into new homes.
admissions & lost pet services - nearly 3,600 dogs and cats were admitted to our no-kill shelter in 2010. Through contracts with 12 cities and municipalities in johnson county, kansas, we were able to rehome nearly 1,000 lost dogs and cats. Lost and stray pets are brought by animal control officers to our facility where they are scanned for a microchip and/or a collar or identification tag in an effort to locate the owners. A total of 57% of all dogs and 6% of cats are rehomed through our services. Lost pet websites are searched and postings are made on various lost pet sites by volunteers and staff. Pets that are not reclaimed by their owners are placed up for adoption. If pets are reclaimed by their owners, administrative and boarding fees are charged to the owners of those pets. If pets that are unwanted or unable to be cared for by their owners are relinquished and accepted into our adoption program, a relinquishment fee is paid by the owner of the pet.
