Programs: The academy publishes a bi-monthly journal. In 2017, there were 8,699 total subscriptions to the annals. Also, many individuals access articles with 410,426 full-text downloads in 2017.
at its annual event, the academy recognizes outstanding scholars in the social sciences and awards the daniel patrick moynihan prize to a scholar who has made outstanding contributions in the social sciences. As part of the award ceremony, the recipient gives a lecture that is open to the public. In 2017, the prize was awarded to alan krueger.
the academy funds and cosponsors conferences on important topics in the social sciences the academy cosponsored several conferences in 2017, including one on the economic condition of the american workforce and another on the value of longitudinal research to policymaking. In addition, the academy holds briefings and symposia on topics examined by recent and upcoming volumes of the annals. In 2017, these included sessions on social welfare, countering violent extremism, and the new rural/urban interface. Participants included policymakers, congressional staff, think tank employees, academics, students and public servants.
