Mission: Educate and organize for farmworker justice.
Programs: Alliance for fair food educated thousands of students and young people, people of faith, community members, and consumers about farmworker exploitation and encouraged them to take action in the campaign for fair food. The success of the campaign for fair food has enabled the creation of the fair food program -- an innovative collaboration between farmworkers, 90% of the florida tomato industry and 14 major food retailers -- which currently benefits over 30,000 farmworkers annually.
provided assistance to the immokalee farmworker community with support on wage theft complaints, technical assistance, translation, childcare, a low-power educational radio station, and more. (more than 200 benefited; many more received community information via the radio station).
I first became involved with Interfaith Action through my church and our concerns for the welfare of farmworkers. Through the years, I have been very impressed by the dedication, hard work and ability of the staff of IA and the many, many volunteers that they inspire. I am now proud to serve as a Board Member of this remarkable organization.
