Nonprofit Overview
Causes: Children & Youth, Children & Youth Services
Mission: To assist urban adolescent males to develop a sense of purpose in life and to thrive as members of a family, school and community.
Programs: Our core 2 program is comprised of high school students. Meetings are on saturdays in a local community center. Sessions include drumming, the telling, discussion and anaysis of mythological stories and fairy tales. Each myth includes questions designed to create discussion. Youth writes down what resonates with them in the myths and how to incorporate the character traits of the hero into their own lives. Youth remain in the program until high school graduation.
core 3 program is comprised of middle school students. This is an in-school program where students meet at three separate middle schools for 22 weeks out of the school year. This program, like the core 2 program, is conducted using myths and fairy tales.
this program is for students attending akron public schools. Two groups met for 25 weeks, while a third group met for 15 weeks. This is also an in-school program. Like the other programs, mythological stories is our means of communication.
