African Childrens Haven

I’ve been privileged to witness first hand the great work of African Childrens Haven (ACH). Over the past decade, the work of this small but highly effective non-profit has helped to transform the lives of hundreds of vulnerable children, giving them both a sense of purpose today and hope for the future. The focus of ACH is on educating the children of the poor. In addition, the organization provides safe haven for girls fleeing genital cutting and works to ensure that all of the children they support receive the food and health care they need to lead independent and productive lives. I am extremely impressed by the efforts of this dedicated group of people, and I strongly recommend African Children's Haven as a Great Nonprofit!

I have a special place for children in my heart and it is such a blessing for me to learn, that the children are being nurtured, protected and cared for in the society. God bless the heart of each and every person contributing to this noble course which I would like to be a part of.

I have seen first hand the amazing work of African Childrens Haven in Kenya. I visited their rescue home for girls in Narok in 2021 and was highly impressed by the commitment of the director, Patrick and his wife, and the programs in place for the girls. They have a seamstress business in town, as well as a farm where the girls can go to get out into the countryside and do meaningful and therapeutic work. You could see on the faces of the girls that they are happy and at peace there. These girls who were victims of child marriage or FGM are getting a second chance, and it's really heartwarming to see. I hope many people will step up to support this great work.

Ed & Linda are two very dedicated individuals who have committed their time, energy, resources, and life to African Childrens Haven. Their determination is a force to be reckoned with!

I have worked with and donated to African Childrens Haven for more than a decade. The organization has consistently supported vulnerable children, particularly girls, through programs that produce lasting results. Over the years they have provided lunch programs to schools so children could be nourished and able to learn. They have supported girls who wish to focus on science through scholarships. ACH has provided safe haven for girls facing early marriage and unwanted circumcision, paid teachers' salaries, and so much more. When schools supported by ACH were shut down during the worst months of the COVID 19 pandemic, ACH provided food for the students and their families. African Childrens Haven monitors and evaluates the results of their funding, ensuring that donor support is well spent. Now more than ever, children living in Kenya and Tanzania need continued support from African Childrens Haven and its donors. I can't praise this organization more highly.

Collaborating with the African Children's Haven (ACH) has been, by far, the most rewarding partnership experience of the last dozen years for our Watu Kwa Watu Charitable Trust based in Nairobi in Kenya, ACH has been consistently a very committed, reliable, effective, and imaginative partner. The main area of our collaboration with the ACH is support to three community-based schools in the low-income areas in Nairobi: (1) Starkid School and Rescue Center, the school and orphanage in the Githogoro slum, (2) Overseers Education Center in the Kangemi slum, and (3) St. Judah Education Center in the Mathare Valley slum. ACH is providing funding, which makes possible the feeding programs for the children in those schools, as well as, in the current pandemics, also supplementary feeding for the families of the children and of the school staff. This is extremely important since the majority of the population of these slums is not employed in the formal sectors and their incomes have been drastically reduced. The staff of the schools has been also very much affected - The parents have no money to pay the fees and consequently the schools have no money to pay the teachers and staff. To remedy this dramatic situation the ACH is also providing modest, but extremely important budget supports for these schools, making it possible, that they pay the teachers and staff and buy minimal health insurance. ACH has also provided support for payment premises on which schools operate, and for purchasing some equipment and supplies. These innovative responses to the dramatic situation of the pandemics and a typical example of the ACH carrying and committed attitude. We are very glad to have the opportunity to collaborate with them, and are highly recommending them to be rated as a GREAT NON PROFIT.

Since many years our trust Watu Kwa Watu has collaborated with African Childrens Haven. ACH sends through us funds to support feeding programs and support for a number of schools in the slums in Nairobi. Ed and Linda Sulzberger ( the founders) are very hard working, dedicated to their work and extremely reliable. It is a pleasure to work together with them. They come up with new ideas and are able to implement them. Now in the time of the pandemic they have send funds for an emergency feeding program for the families of students in the slums. This program was ACH's initiative and is greatly helping those very poor families who would otherwise go hungry.We can highly recommend this great nonprofit!

I have known Africa Childrens Haven for a long time, since 2014. We, The ABCs of Sex Education have been in partnership and work very well together. African Childrens Haven has a heart for African children; they make sure that they support the children to go to school and attain the utmost goal in their lives. They work with children that are orphans and vulnerable, children who live in African slums, and have lost hope, are given hope by African Childrens Haven. Young girls that were at risk of being married off early in life have been rescued and taken to school to have a better future through the existence of Africa Childrens Haven. Girls have escaped FGM through the hands of Africa Childrens Haven.
For this matter, Africa Childrens Haven is a haven for children and should be given all help to enable it to steer the lives of African vulnerable children to a better level than they are.
The attached picture shows Educator from The ABCs of Sex Education teaching children sex education and reduction of HIV infection skills, having been sponsored by the Africa Childrens Haven. The impact of these life skill lessons to these young girls is tremendous and helps keep them in school and avoid early pregnancies and school drop outs.

It is ironic that it took a move from Los Angeles to Galveston, TX on the Gulf Coast of the US to even learn about the life changing work being done by the African Childrens Haven. I had never heard of the organization until I read an article in The Galveston County Daily News and was immediately struck by specificity of the help that was being given. Rather than a vague description of “good works”, the article told (and showed a photo) of a tractor that had been given to a girls school in Kenya so that they could grow their own food and sell any surplus to support themselves. The article also described the history and other (very specific) work of the organization. Since then I have had the pleasure of meeting the founders and the opportunity to donate to their very effective work. A donation to Africa Childrens Haven is money very well spent.

I have come to learn about African Childrens Haven (ACH) through their wonderful work in Tanzania and Kenya. ACH is an amazing organization that strives to see positive impact to many especially to those who are in need. Recently ACH has accepted to work with our organization that support children with developmental disabilities. In such a short time we have seen how efficient the organization is, excellent communication, open minded focused and willingness to help in seeing we have realized the organization goals. Not only ACH tangible results which are known to be admired but also the genuine people who are working hard to make positive changes in our African communities.

As a Founder of Vumilia orphanage in western Kenya, I highly appreciate the work of African Childrens Haven towards supporting the orphanage for many years. Us a family of Vumilia orphanage, we're humbled to have been connected to this amazing Organization. Of course they have shown the kids and us the staff what Love and care means by providing to our Home School all what is needed to enhance the Education of these Girls.

The best Gift one can give to an orphaned child in Kenya is Quality EDUCATION, African Children Haven has already given to our 15 girls who have finished Universities. A Big THANK YOU. It's still also providing to 30 Girls, school supplies and other financial needs. Without this Organization, many of these girls would not have seen inside of a classroom. Having had the opportunity to visit some of the organizations that ACH funds, i can see how far a little amount of money goes. a few dollars can go to help feed the kids for a day at starkids, and that same amount of money can go towards food and shelter for those girls who want to avoid be married off to someone way before they are ready to be married.
ACH does so much with so little and i am pleased to be a part of what they do.

I have worked with African Children's Haven and several of the non-profits that they support in Kenya for a number of years now. They have carefully selected grass roots organizations that are doing good in their communities, with an emphasis on work that helps vulnerable children. ACH follows through with financial and strategic help and mentorship, to strengthen the groups that they work with. They are a credible, strong organization with focus, knowledge, experience, and integrity.

For many years we have collaborated with African Childrens Haven. It is a great idea organization! The founders Linda and Edward Sulzberger are very committed in their mission to help the poor in Africa. As an expatriate living in Nairobi, Kenya for the past 16 years, I've been both privileged and proud to see first hand the impact of African Childrens Haven, especially its efforts to provide educational opportunities in the slums of Nairobi. It is difficult to capture in words the huge difference that ACH is making in the lives of hundreds of young people who otherwise would grow up with little or no hope for a better future. But when you see these kids, when you see the wonder in their eyes and hear the enthusiasm bursting from the classrooms, you feel their excitement and optimism, and you can't help but become excited and optimistic yourself. ACH is a truly wonderful and extremely well managed organization, which is something of a rarity in the world of non-profits these days. In my professional life, I've worked with a large number of non-profits, but few that embody the kind of passion that drives ACH or have the kind of long-term impacts they are achieving. They are changing the futures of African youngsters by instilling hope, optimism and a strong sense of self-worth. These children are the future of Kenya and of Africa more broadly; all they need is the chance to learn. ACH gives them that chance.

African Childrens Haven (ACF) is an exceptional organization. ACTsupports grassroots organizations in Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania that help vulnerable children living in extreme poverty in urban slums and rural communities lead healthier, more productive lives. They support education programs for underserved youth with a special focus on orphans and girls. Their work is grounded in a believe that Africa’s future rests with its children and that projects developed and run by local communities produce cost-effective, sustainable long-term results. Their education services and programs include:

Orphans: Nairobi’s urban slums and Kenya’s rural villages, have among the highest rates of HIV infection in the world. ACH supports children affected by the ongoing HIV/AIDS pandemic. Our programs provide shelter, food, clothing, medical services and education for children in need. We also support life skills training and sex education that bring life-saving information to children and families in the rural communities and urban slums where we work.

Education: To the greatest extent possible, each of our projects focus on education, vocational training and life skills. In addition to providing scholarships, we also support school feeding programs and work to make sure that teachers are paid a living wage and have health insurance for their families.

Gender: Lastly -- but perhaps most importantly -- African Childrens Haven gives highest priority to projects that support girls and mothers. Africa is traditionally male dominated, but that is changing as women rise to positions of influence and as they become empowered to support their families, enter the cash economy, and become community leaders.

I strongly endorse African Children's Haven and would encourage other to support the urgently needed services they are providing.

Under the guidance & assistance of Linda & Ed Sulzberger, I was able to fulfil my long time desire of an Art Charity 'Draw Your Dreams" by Dinesh Doshi
to provide free crayons & drawing pads for young children in Kenya.
The art program creates a vehicle of imagination, art skills & a potential drive to exceed better in their lives.
It also draws children together to view each other's dreams and discuss a hope of future growth.

American Cildrens Haven is such a wonderful non-profit! I have contributed to the organization for more than 5 years. During that time I have become more aware of the work they do. I especially am amazed by the difference of hey have made in their work with young females. The lives they have changed will continue to make differences in other lives. As a retired educator nothing makes larger changes in the world than all the types of work that ACH does with young women. The best thing about giving to ACH is that the people that work with the organization are so so passionate about this work they do. Passion makes all the difference!

Sin acceso a energía eléctrica, calles rurales sin pavimento ni drenaje que seguridad tiene los niños para caminar a tan temprano. La mañana siguiente me dirigí al centro educativo esa oscura mañana y fui sorprendido otra vez, ingrese a la escuela oscura, donde no se veía nada, a lo lejos escuchamos murmullos al final del centro a dos aulas iluminadas con candelas y albergaba alrededor de 20 a 30 niños por aula. Los niños estaban usando con mucho orgullo sus pulcros uniformes, sus zapatos y camisas con huecos y manchas pero limpias – durante esta visita ni los profesores, ni los niños sabían que los visitaríamos, todos nos sorprendimos, ellos al vernos y nosotros de ver tanta disciplina y dedicación.

Fue impresionante ver su dedicación, concentración y disciplina al hacer sus tareas. Los niños al notar nuestra presencia, se pusieron de pie de manera ordenada, al unísono nos dijeron Good Morning! Y se sentaron a continuar con su misión de continuar estudiando.

Tanto los directores de los proyectos, el personal y los niños beneficiados son incondicionales, dedicados y apreciativos del benéfico que reciben.

Es maravilloso que la fundación ofrece proyecto integral, cada niño al recibe alimentos, educación y salud. A pesar de su corta edad entienden que es un privilegio el tener esta opción como camino para salir adelante y superar la pobreza en la sus antepasados han vivido por generaciones.

We as Mission with a vision a Kenyan charity that has received support from ACH since it was founded have great respect for ACH commitment to support of the African child. We deal with girls escaping female genital mutilation and forced early marriage and ACH has stood by us by offering school fees, clothing and even feeding the girls. Starkid school & Rescue centre in Nairobi - Kenya (Africa) has no words to describe the enormous support from African Children Haven ever since 2014.

Our population is 245children to date. Among these children 87 children live in the school shelter(42 boys & 45 girls). The shelter children are 6-19 years.

These children have been rescued from child abuse, child labour, early marriages, early pregnancy, drugs, mistreatment, torture and violence.

These children need love, protection, clothes and other needs inorder to persue their dreams and change their future. Being poverty stricken with some children having no parents, this dream would definitely be aborted. Our slum would in turn be more insecure and more violent!

This is where ACH has been like that cement/ building block between the children and their dreams! ACH has supported the Centre with feeding, teaching materials and equipment, facilities, infastructure and running costs among many others!

Recently, we have started computer program courtesy of ACH! They are working to ensure that we have enough hopefully by next year.

We would like to acknowledge this huge support which has kept the children off the streets, given them a shelter and education to make them better persons.

Lastly i would like to appeal to all people of good will to support ACH. They have vowed to fundraise,so as to help our Centre to relocate to a more secure place to avoid closure. This would help protect the children from going back to where they had been rescued from.

What else can i say, ACH is only a click of a button and you are assured of their help!! 5stars for them!

As a long time supporter and donor to African Childrens' Haven, I became aware of the need and interested in the work that is being done to support the growth and education of young women and children of Africa. Having personally met some of the individuals involved and associated with this organization, I know they are extremely passionate and totally committed to educating and nurturing the body and soul of these individuals. I know with the help received from African Childrens' Haven many are learning to create a safe and healthy environment in which to raise their children. This alone will have a profound affect on their community now and for many generations to come.

As a longtime donor to children's-related charities I have found that the biggest impact is by grassroots organizations that have multi-year engagement with the children. Be it housing and educating orphan girls in Tanzania, providing education in the slums of Nairobi, or protecting girls from genital mutilation, a donation goes a very long way. African Childrens Haven provides a vital service to concerned donors by finding, evaluating, funding, and monitoring such organizations in Africa. They ensure that the donor's dollar is wisely spent and having a meaningful and lasting impact on the child's life.

I'm a contributor to this group because they are making a real difference to the children in Africa. They carefully research groups they contribute to, including site visits, to make sure the money is going to the people who need the help as efficiently as possible. They try their best to pick organizations that are or stand a good chance of being self-sustaining. This group has the right approach to make a real difference in the lives of real people who appreciate their opportunity.

My wife and I were made aware of African Children’s Haven a few years back and were so impressed with the mission statement especially supporting projects in Kenya and Tanzania that support young children and mothers by providing food, shelter, clothing, medical services and education. We are very proud to help support this very important organization to give children and mothers healthier and more productive lives.

Although I live and work in Peru, I am a proud supporter of African Childrens Haven. I’ve known the organizers for more than 25 years and can say without reservation that they work tirelessly to improve the lives of hundreds of African children though scholarships, orphan care programs, by supporting hard working teachers and by providing support that protects vulnerable young girls from abuse. African Childrens Haven is making a real difference.

I lived and worked in Nairobi, Kenya for six months of 2015 as a researcher doing governance and policy work with the NGO Transparency International - Kenya. During this time, I befriended a local good man named Dan Ndula who founded and operates a school, Overseer's Education Centre, in the Kangemi slum of Nairobi by day while working all night as a hostel watchman by night. Seeking to support my friend Dan and his small school, my family put me in touch with African Children's Haven. From across the Atlantic on the other side of the world, having never met myself or my friend Dan, ACH and its generous directors answered the call, both putting us in touch with a local charity partner in Nairobi, scheduling a future date to meet with Dan in February 2016 and gracing the school with a $250 donation which went to creating a new small office, the beginning of a library and part of a classroom. I am glad and thankful to have been put in touch with the people of ACH and highly recommend their good work.

African Childrens Haven is a great organization. It takes care of our C3 forms for ABCs of Sex Education. They ensure that we get our wired transfers early and on time. They diligently do this for free because they know we rely on donors. They have twice sponsored us to teach in some schools that need sex education very much. St. Phillips in the slums of Mathare, Nairobi Kenya and Starkids School and Rescue Centre respectively. These are schools that help poor and unfortunate children and have very vulnerable children who need lots of support, which I testify, they get from African Childrens Haven.

I give African Childrens Haven a five star rating because I believe they more than deserve it.

As a donor to African Childrens' Haven, I have become more aware of and interested in the work that is being done to support young people in Africa. As a retired educator and administrator, there is nothing more important than organizations like ACH that are committed to serving youth in all aspects of their lives so they can navigate in their own environment and develop skills that give them advantages in navigating beyond that.
The education of girls and women and empowering them to have a voice and be able to make healthy choices will have a profound affect on the community they live in and on their future.
The people I know associated with ACH are passionate and totally committed to nurturing the body, heart, and soul of those they work to serve.

The St. Philip's School Mathare, a Community Based Institution located in the marginalized slums of Mathare found in Nairobi City of Kenya applause its relationship with ACH since year 2009. We greatly honor ACH support to ensure our teaching staff and subordinate staff gets a monthly wage and salary enough for their upkeep as they give education and other humanitarian support to the pupils from the poor slums of Mathare. We applause ACH taking care of the pupils nutritional needs as they undertake their studies in the center - a key pillar for the project for a hungry man is an angry man and has no dignity whatsoever. Sponsoring needy pupils who do well in their primary final examination to join highs school is also recommendable. Ensuring we a bid to statutory requirement as an institution by complying to staff health insurance year after year is worth recommending. Provision of textbooks, stationary, desks among other has been enabled at St. Philip's School Mathare through ACH. Capacity building, technical assistance, providing a larger network of more partners to help provide better services to the needy children in Mathare slums is worth recommending and now thinking we can have a modern school for children under our care is now ringing in mind of ACH board - seeking partners toward infrastructure building, modern tuition block with 17 classrooms, sanitary block, offices among other infrastructure to enable school operation is at ACH mind as from next year 2016. We recommend the public at large to assist ACH finance this programmes at our center. St. Philip's School Mathare after not exhausting all is there because ACH has stood with its activities and projects day in day out. Long live all board members ACH, long live all people giving money towards this worth cause. We applaud you especially at this moment most people find economy being hard. As an international development consultant with knowledge and experience of orphans and vulnerable children, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa, who has worked with African Childrens Haven for years on several different projects, I have found they have proven themselves, repeatedly, to be the very best sort of supporter, partner, mentor and guide to grassroots organizations delivering life-saving and enhancing services to women and children in extreme poverty.
By using their extensive experience in Africa, derived from decades of working and living there, ACH has developed a network of contacts, experts, educators and friends that help ensure that every project is expertly designed and managed and every dollar spent is maximally leveraged through that management.
They stress local involvement, management and ownership wherever possible and strive to respect culture and context while delivering greatly needed human services.
Their emphasis on children in need and education delivery assures a brighter future not only for the people they reach but Africa itself.

As a Kenyan, I greatly appreciate the work that African Childrens Haven (ACH) does to support our students and teachers. Thanks to their efforts, 450 primary school students from the worst slum areas in Nairobi are attending school. Those schools, which are central to the well-being of their communities, provide both education and basic nutrition through their school lunch programs. For many, it’s the most important meal of the day. The schools served by African Childrens Haven also act as a safe haven for the children, keeping them out of harm’s way while their parents are away at work. In addition, ACH supports hard working teachers by underwriting their salaries and by providing health insurance for their families.

Supporting Africa Children's Haven gives power to the grassroots efforts by organizations to help children at the local level, especially to facilitate secondary education for girls. We know that when girls are educated, poverty levels, birth rates go down and the entire economy of a region is raised.

I have been working with ACH for over 6 years in Tanzania. Our relationship started through the establishment of the Carole Cole Science Scholars program, which supports disadvantaged and orphaned girls by paying their tuition, setting them up with an experienced mentor, giving them exposure to events and resources as well as various other areas of support. Their field staff and mentor is dedicated and knowledgeable and works extremely hard to communicate and work with the girls despite many challenges.

I also work with ACH on funding for small projects at FANAKA Memorial Secondary School. They are open and responsive to needs shared by the school. Addressing issues like safety, teacher morale, educational materials and administrative support is imperative for the longevity of the school and its important presence in the Bunju A community.

Finally and maybe most importantly, ACH played a pivotal role in the foundation of my own Non-profit. I started my work in TZ when I was 19 and started my organization with a lot of passion and dedication. ACH provided information and guidance to help frame projects and work on fundraising. Partnering with ACH benefited my donors and my projects. This type of networking allows ACH to broaden its impact and make more meaningful contributions.

ACH has built a strong foundation and network to impact the lives of thousands of people. The world needs the presence of organizations like this. It is ESSENTIAL to continue to fund ACH. Although they have been able to influence some in TZ, I do believe their role and response could have been considerably stronger if they had the financial capability to do so. Donors want results but programs need substantial funding to make that happen. Progress takes time, flexibility, leadership and financing.

I have been an enthusiastic supporter of ACH for many years and continue to be awed by the work done by this organization. The dedication of all involved from the board to the teachers and administrators is truly remarkable. ACH is changing the world one person at a time and the numbers continue to grow. A safe haven, education and support for young people is a way to help secure the future for us all and ACH is a facilitator par excellence in this arena. I am very proud to be associated with such a fine organization.

African Childrens Haven is an organization that my husband and I have been supporting for several years, because we know that this is the "Real Deal"...it is True and we know that our support is going exactly where it should be going...to the beautiful Children in Africa that so desparately need all the support and help they can get, so they can live a meaningful and full life on our amazing Planet Earth.
We personally have known the Directors in Galveston, TX for about 40 years and they work endless hours on their own time to support the success of this wonderful organization. It is so encouraging and such a blessing to know there are still people out there who are willing to give so much of themselves to support African Childrens Haven!!! The rewards are unforgettable. As someone who has worked for international development organizations for years, I'm a firm believer in early childhood education. The help that African Children's Haven brings to these children is likely to make a huge difference in their future lives. Many studies have shown that positive early learning experiences are clearly one of the most likely pathways out of poverty. And so, reaching them at this young age can make empty stares turn sparkly and if you could see them face to face, it would do the same for you.

I have known Africa Children Haven for the last five years through their charity work in Tanzania. ACH is supporting 10 orphaned girls to make their dreams come true. The support is channeled through the Carole Cole Science Scholars program, which supports these disadvantaged girls by paying their tuition and various requirements for their education. On my part being a scientist I mentor the girls by sharing my life experience but also together we learn the soft skills of success within the Emotional Intelligence framework. ACH extended their support beyond individual girls by contributing to equipping the science laboratory at Bethsdaida Girls Secondary school, where the girls did their secondary school. To date six of the girls are doing their high school education and three girls are going to join vocational education colleges. I admire ACH founders i.e. Ed and Linda for their love and patience especially where communication infrastructure has not allowed for regular feedback on the performance of the program. Indeed the success we have today is as a result of their perseverance and understanding.

Over the past 5 years I've had the opportunity to visit 4 of the local Kenyan-run organizations that African Childrens Haven assists. I'm impressed with the heart, dedication, transparency and skill with which those organizations help their communities. As I've worked more closely with ACH, I see that same dedication and love of children, especially, reflected by their board. ACH now assists me and the organization I work with in Kenya, with advice, guidance and expertise from their years of experience in the non-profit world. I'm proud to be affiliated with this outstanding organization.

In the last couple of years, I have searched for non-profit organizations that I thought made a difference in the world. It was also important to me to find an organization in which almost all of the donation got to those it was supposed to serve. I found this in African Children’s Haven.

Not only have they helped children through their sexual health programs but as important is that the organization changes lives forever with the educational support provided to children and young adults. Both of these services are “forever” gifts…not just a gift that helps for a moment in time. Education is such a precious gift. It has a direct impact on the recipients but it also changes the lives of the people around the recipients and the lives of the next generation. African Children’s Haven provides something that can’t be stolen or taken away. It is a forever gift. I am so grateful that I found this non-profit.

For the past two years African Childrens Haven has been the financial agent for a Kenyan sex education and HIV prevention charity I work with. The services they provide have been exceptional! From donor management to forex wire transfers, expense monitoring, financial reporting and controls they have given us extremely valuable advice, execution, and support. Thank you ACH!

I was a long-time supporter of educational program at the St. Philips Primary School located in the second largest slum in Nairobi, Kenya, when I came to know African Children's Haven. ACH is a US nonprofit that supports a variety of programs for poor African children, especially orphans and girls living in extreme poverty. In 2009 I approached ACH for financial support for St. Philips and was pleased to receive an immediate and positive response. Since then, ACH has provided significant assistance to the school, to its students and to its many dedicated teachers. I have worked hand-in-hand with ACH ever since on a variety of projects, including a visit to the Nairobi National Game Reserve as part of the students’ science education. Although the children lived just a few kilometers from the Reserve, none had ever visited. Today, ACH is lending valuable support to St. Philips and is working hard to help the school improve the quality of the education it provides to its students. Although I am now based in the USA, I continue to collaborate with ACH. It is rewarding to know that both girls and boys after finishing their primary studies now have the opportunity to receive scholarships for continuing on to secondary education. From personal experience I can say that ACH is providing commendable and dedicated support to the school. I hope that others like me will donate to their valuable programs, programs that help so many African children at St. Philips and in a variety of projects across Eastern and Southern Africa.

I’ve been a committed supporter of African Childrens Haven over the past eight years. The organization operates at the grassroots helping African organizations that might otherwise receive little or no support from US nonprofits. African Childrens Haven keeps it simple. Its mission is straightforward, its staff is knowledgeable and its operations efficiently address the pressing needs of the rural and urban poor. Although it supports a variety of projects that help kids and their parents lead healthier, more productive lives I am particularly drawn to their program that protect girls from childhood marriages and female genital mutilation. This effort, which protect scores of girls and young women, also provide scholarships and vocational training that helps young women earn a living and lead a better life.

My name is Patrick Ngigi from Kenya. I am the Executive Director of Mission With A Vision, a nongovernmental organization that helps children, especially girls, lead healthier, more productive lives. I have known African Childrens Haven since 2007. They are great organization and deserve a pat on the back. They have worked in the rural Africa for many years supporting the most vulnerable in the society.

One great thing about ACH is that it is runs mainly on volunteer power. This is unlike other non-profits that employ hundreds of workers and end up using over half of what they raise in administrative costs. ACH has talented staff that visit the projects they fund in the remote African villages with dedication and zeal. Their dedication to give hope to girls and women is one thing that needs to be noted. I have watched many girls receive a new lease of life through education projects funded by ACH.

Their dedication to supporting education through infrastructure cannot be left without mentioning. Schools like Osiligi school in Maasai Mara Kenya exist solely because ACH made the efforts to raise funds to build them. Africa is so proud to have a friend like African children’s haven, a great supporter of the needy indeed.

As a strong proponent of education and advocate for the disenfranchised youth world wide, I have had the unsurpassed privilege of being a contributor to ACH for several years. Years ago, there was an article in the Houston Chronicle detailing the activities of ACH in Africa and it stirred and piqued my interest to delve further into what this esteemed organization's aims and objectives were. I contacted Mr. and Mrs. Sulzberger and was impressed by their steadfast, unremitting zeal and relentless commitment to improve the lives of untold many in the African continent with a special emphasis on educating the youth and eradicating ignorance, namely, through their diverse educational programs. I am heartened by the expansion in the scope of their charitable activities and entry into other countries in the continent separate and apart from Kenya and Tanzania. As the great spiritual giant, Mahatma Ghandi stated: "be the change you wish to see in the world." ACH's efforts in making herculean efforts to make a generational difference in the lives of innumberable people in Africa, represents the very embodiment of Mahatma Ghandi's exhortation. May their work continue unabated and meet with continued unbounded success.

I support African Children's Haven because they develop programs that impact both the immediate and future needs of the communities they serve. Their programs demonstrate a real connection to the people they serve - people who benefit in profound ways from the services. ACH's support of education and child welfare has been especially meaningful to me. For example, their support of secondary school education for disadvantaged girls, with the goal of helping students then go on to university studies will benefit not only the girls own lives, but their communities, too. This type of deliberate, longer term effort and goal-setting tells me that ACH understands what is at stake when they measure the value of a girl's education in a developing nation.

The leaders of ACH are veterans of the non-profit and NGO world and it shows in both the way they execute their programs and how they interact with donors. Their communication efforts are exceptional. The personal involvement of the ACH team means they are able to report on the people and communities they serve with clarity and a great depth of understanding. As a donor who does not spend much time in the non-profit world, I find it reassuring to know that the organization I engage with has invested so much forethought into its efforts to help protect and nurture children who have such great needs.

I came to know of African Children's Haven many years ago when I lived in New York. I was supporting an orphanage in Kenya and they were also doing great work there. We began communicating regularly and I came to know the Directors as friends. They are inspired and committed people with a deep understanding of the places in which they work owing to a long history working in Africa. I began working with them for a number of years before moving to Uganda.

I have been delighted to see their progress over the years and the lives they have touched with their work. Investing in children and girls in particular is repeatedly proven to be one of the most effective means of promoting sustainable development. ACH maximizes this investment by keeping administrative costs to a bare minimum, sending as much as possible to those in need.
