Causes: Environment
Mission: Building a diverse grassroots movement to address the causes of climate disruption through justice-based solutions by inspiring, training, and mobilizing people to act.
Programs: Grass-roots team organizing: grew to eighteen mostly volunteer-led teams. Significantly expanded and trained our volunteer base to lead regular public vigils, movie nights, arts-based events, letter-writing gatherings and other creative methods for educating on the climate crisis. Expanded our neighborhood-based organizing to include suburban communities resulting in a role in the passage of climate action commitments by city of milwaukie (or) action plan. Worked with allies to support clean climate legislation and climate champions at local and state level.
justice-based transition from fossil fuels to clean energy: supported the development of a frontline community benefits approach to a just energy transition, the portland clean energy fund; worked in coalition to gather thousands of public comments and signatures opposing new fossil fuel power plants in oregon, resulting in decisions by the public utility commission against plant expansions; advocated in support of new community solar legislation and regulations with minority and low-income residents in mind.
diversity, equity, and inclusion work: supported community equity partners in organizing peoples climate march and other public events; organized trainings for 350pdx staff, volunteers and board members to deepen understanding and skills on equity and diversity in climate organizing.
